i finally gave in and started my cohen's lifestyle journey today.
I have 18kg to lose and today's day 1. after lunch i'm still hungry! sobs!

Day 1 and I'm already feeling tempted to stop the diet... I can't wait for the end of this programme....

i have some concerns. going on this cohen diet, would it mean that I cannot eat how I used to eat and also have to choose lean cuts? I love a nice sirloin / ribeye and living in Asia, love my noodles and pork. Do I have to cut them out entirely or risk putting back on the weight I am going to lose?

Can the successful Cohen people give me their insights?

Hi tutu & welcome to the forum & to Cohen's. The start of any diet is difficult. Try not to look at what you are not having for the moment & concentrate instead on what you are doing. You have made a conscious decision to lose your excess weight & you have chosen Cohen's. You will get used to & it will get easier. Day 1 is always going to be tough. Your body & your brain are complaining. Try to be strong & determined & do not give in. It will get easier & easier as you go. Take it one day at a time. Congratulate yourself every day that you get through successfully.
Most of us loved the food that made us fat. I choose not to go back to eating as I used to & eat very healthily. I include noodles & rice in my diet but they are never the main part of my meal. Fresh vegetables & fruit & lean protein are my mainstays. I don't ever want to be fat again so that is what I have chosen. I needed to change my lifestyle as do most of us.
As I said try not to worry about what is down the track. You will be very surprised at how much your tastes will change. Let it happen tutu. Go with the flow & follow Cohen's 100%. You will not regret it. Picture yourself slim & healthy. You will become that person.
Cheers for now Cate.

Cate put it best! Believe me, after the programme, your tastebuds would change and you will find that what you used to crave before, is in the past and you end up craving for more healthier things!

I'm currently on maintenance and I used to be a huge carb junkie. I have been eating rice every day so far but in much moderation. Now, fresh vegs and lean meats are more of my staples. I also eat a lot of healthy wheat crackers (as Cohen approved) and brown bread (when I can find it).

Enjoy your journey! I know I did! :)

Hi tutu!

Welcome to Cohen's!! It's the most amazing eating plan you can EVER find.. The first week is difficult.. But it is possible to stick to it -- and when you do, you will definitely love the new you!!! :D

AND that is the exact reason why I'm back..
The reason that I fell of the wagon was silly -- heartbreak. But I'm over that now and ready to be all sexy again ;) hehe!

*hugs*
Luvbug xx

hey tutu, welcome! hang in there. Focus on reaching Day 4 when you will feel energised. The first three days are very difficult but if you can pass that, you'll be breezing the programme i'm sure. congratulations on making a wise choice.

hi guys, thanks sooo much for ur encouragement!! I havent felt energerised and did feel hungrier after breakfast than i did yesterday but yes one day down and i'm getting there. I did spend the night dreaming about cheecheongfun (chinese rice roll) and smelling it.. Hhhaaaahaha im so greedy!

I am hoping today is more enjoyable. I went to buy beef and marinated it with herb and will have it with grilled portabello. Hmmmm...

My worry is eating out when there are appointments. How did u guys manage??

This programme is about teaching self control? And managing healthy food and portions? After its completed, does it allow some indulgence? I read about people losing all that weight and then piling back on and more... Eeks!

hey tutu,
what you could do if you absolutely have to eat out is perhaps order a diet fizzy drink or/and fresh fruits. I'd tell my companions that I'm not hungry (if they are the sort to mock at you for making healthy choices, no point in explaining to such species) or just tell them you want to eat healthy.
I find that fruits are easier to gauge than veggies and meat portions. As for the main meals, best to prepare that on your own.
and cheecheongfun will come soon. hang in there :p it's temporary..

hi guys, sorry havent been more responsive. I qas busy grocery shopping for yummy veg and good cut of beef, albeit lean (boohoo).

And i survived 3 days!!! Happily too. I realise my breakfast is the hardest as ive always been a big breakfast person and having just egg and veg isnt even half-filling. But since my herb and balsamic vinegar marinated beef and portabello stirfried with garlic dinners, i am so enjoying myself.

My concerns, if anyone would help shed some light, are (yes haha a lot of concerns)
-Eating egg and beef everyday is it going to raise cholesterol sky high, mine is pretty unhealthy level
-there is no limit to how much balsamic vinegar right? Tho i use 1 teaspoon for marinating.
-is it ok to use balsamic vinegar, (sometimes with chilli for spice) as a dip at my meals? Breakfast lunch dinner...

Thanks guys! I cant wait for weight gain massive and to breeze thru the programme. Anyone has a good grilling recipe for beef and fish?? Or just any good ones to help me?

Off to bed. Nights!! :)

wow.. Like what everyone says and how everyone has been encouraging me, 6 days of cohen has flown by and i think i have got used to it now... Really hope i keep them up.

Yesterdays dinner was simply amazing. I love shabu shabu (japanese steamboat) so i made a cohen version. Just cabbage (wong bok allowed right?) boiled first in water then i cooked each slice of beef individually (all shabu cut, thinly sliced).. Balsamic vinegar and a couple drops of yuzu juice (yuzu is a type of mandarin so shd be ok right? Consultant thinks ok) yums!! Of course the beef broth isnt as yummy but its still great being able to eat a cohen-variant of my fav food.

Lean cut of beef means as long as i cut out trimmings of fats and it has not marbling thats ok right? Not necessary only tendeloin? What other cuts can i use?

And i think it was misskris in another thread (breakfast ideas) who suggested cheese and mushroom. Tried that today for breakfast, it was sooo yummy! Popped it in the oven... Thanks sooo much!

I think because i love cooking, thinking of new ways to cook a yummy cohen diet also spurs me on.. Who says diet = plain tasteless meals right?!

But today (day 6) for lunch i was at the zoo, and with only kfc as an option, i ate only their salad. Am worried of its effect on my progress so far (im seeing positive signs on my face). Shd i have eaten a drumstick with skin fats removed and oil pressed out or its right for me to skip the protein? I remember one of the rules was not to skip meals :(

Its the weekend so clinic closed. Anyone can advise me please? And tomorrow is mothers day. Wonder what to do? Need to dine with MIL...

tutu, Take your meals with you so that you are not tempted to eat off-plan. I would not risk it. You get used to doing so. Cohen's must be followed 100% or you are not giving it your best shot. Your plan should be specific about what cuts of meat you can eat. Read it again & again. There is always something you forget. Count any juice you use as part of your allowance & be careful of non-allowed additives. Take your own meal when you visit your MIL too. It doesn't matter what she thinks about it.
Congratulations on getting through the first 6 days, relatively unscathed. It will get easier as you get used to it & you will enjoy how you feel as you slip into smaller sizes. Cheers, cate.

tutu - why not pack your meals, and plan for times that you are caught out and might be hungry? I travel a lot during my plan and I was always prepared. Even if it meant just carrying a can of tuna and cucumbers with me. I also always packed wheat crackers, and fruit and brought them with me. The key to the plan is preparation, preparation, preparation! Do not eat out if you can help it.

As for egg and beef every day. I had egg every day and my cholesterol is fine. But I wouldn't recommend having beef every day - we have choices on our menu so take advantage of it. :) Get out of your comfort zone and learn how to cook different meals, etc. Seriously, this would help you stick to the plan, and also healthy eating after!

thanks cate and dietgrrl,
I guess i didnt pack because i didnt want people to jeer me off it. Its easier to order healthy than to show them a packed lunch. But u botn are right i should just pack food on the go.

And also perhaps avoid meeting people for meals when still on programme. It would be sooo hard to explain to friends, that im in a diet and like what geo mentioned before, they will just try to persuade u off it

Dietgrrl, i havent thought of canned tuna. I did bring my fruits and crackers tho. Its sooo cute. My 1yo seeing me eat these crackers, now also wants to eat and will only allow me to eat them if he feeds me. Haha

Oh yes, did i mention i put on almost 30kg during pregnancy and only managed to lose all but 5kg thus after struggling for so long, decided to go cohen.

tutu, i find that after the initial teasing, people tend to just back off and let you do your thing. you don't have to explain the entire plan - just that you are trying to eat healthy and also save money (seriously, you save more money packing your food than eating out! and it's hard to find healthy choices when eating out).

re: canned tuna - get the one packed in water, not in oil. They saved me a lot during travels!

thanks for tip about tuna. Shall stock up altho im not a fan of cooked tuna. Haha btw the clinic said tuna sashimi cannot, is that true? My consultant doesnt seem to know much..

And boohoo, so sad. I realised i mixed up yesterdays meal. Took twicw from one group. Anyone done that before? Now im bit sadden, after all that progress... :(

hey tutu, i was at Fassler's at Woodlands Terrace yesterday. They have frozen whiting and tuna steak! And it's rather affordable at about $3 ish each. So if you don't like canned tuna, you could get the frozen variety, thaw it and then weigh it.
You could also do a good fish soup with threadfin. Look out for it at Fairprice Supermarket. Couple of weeks back, they were selling an entire threadfin at about $20. I got that filleted, weighed and stashed in the fridge and made soup, grilled and steamed them.

hi guys,

i'm still surviving. a bit used to it so forgot to count.
I've been on it a week and a half so that makes it ... 12 days !! almost 2 weeks

i'm used to eating such small portions. got used to making different varieties, but all balsamic vinegar based. oh i've also got used to eating mango with plain yogurt.

I ate lunch out at a steak place and they just char-grilled my tenderloin (weighed out for me) and salad on the side. was a treat.

bugged my consultant for the questions i had. she said any cut of beef is ok, as long as no fat. ok for sashimi (tuna) but no wasabi or sauce. ok for yuzu juice if it's a drop.

my frame looks a tad smaller. i can't wait for the 4 weeks blood test and review!

thanks everyone! sorry i have been so unresponsive. i dunno why time flies and i'm sooo darn busy

Hey Tutu

Just wanted to stop in and say hi and that you are really doing amazing!

Cohen's will make you feel so much better about yourself and will boost your confidence immensely.

You are doing great - just keep the focus!

hi lovely ladies and all!!!

Its been a month or rather 5 weeks and i went for my 1st month weigh-in and guess what?!?! I lost abt 8.5-9kg. Wow!! Time flies and cohen has just become part of my lifestyle.

Followed it almost religiously with occassional eatouts but still watching portions and cuts and nosauces.

I've been such a good girl but last night due to world cup i snacked abit. A couple of fishballs but no mixing of proteins (had fish for dinner). Hope it wont severely affect my progress.

I'm 6-8kg to my optimal weight now... Consultant said weight loss in 2nd month will slow down before picking up again. Hope I get to refeeding soon! Fingers crossed. I'll be very disciplined.

How long does refeeding prgm on average take?
