In the states, canned tuna is sold either in spring water or vegetable oil. So of course the spring water version is best, and the 'brine' would be drained away anyways.
Even better tho, most tuna manufacturers here now offer tuna pre-drained in air tight foil pouches. Also other types of fish, like salmon etc are good this way.
that's sorta what i do now. I make a tuna fish sandwich with just a dallop of creamy light salad dressing... but it's getting boring now. the only other recipe i can find out there is using the canned tuna to make casseroles and cream pasta dishes but I want to avoid those cause they usually call for cream and that tends to be on the fattier side.
Condiment add in's: Relish, italian dressing, or a combination of relish and light mayo/miracle whip that is also sometimes found pre-made and packaged as a sandwich spread, its tangy and has a kick.
Other add in's: Diced pickles, peas, onions, celery.
Drain your can of tuna well. Add an egg white, finely chopped onions and-or green peppers, make crumbs out of some lo-fat wheat crackers. Add crumbs as needed to shape patty. Roll in crumbs if desired. Gently fry in skillet using Pam until browned on both sides. Makes a good sandwich on a wheat bun or a main course with veggies. Spice this up as desired with lemon pepper or onion chives.
tuna is a fish that lives off baitfish so there is no telling whats in its system. really that goes for most saltwater fish. being in the can seems to change the taste. try some fresh tuna its loads better and dosent have that metalic taste.
i love fresh tuna. Being here on the coast we get alot of it. someone told me to try tuna rare. i have had it in sushi and i liked it so i gave it a try. it has more of a red meat texture and it was really good. Tuna is one of those fishies that you can just about do anything with......
yes sushi is very good for you. It does have some calories but nothing crazy. The rice has alot of carbs. sushi rice is a shorter grain than what we norm use and its very starchy, but your not really eating that much rice in a piece or two of sushi. Im not sure about the seaweed wrap but i have heard its loaded with vitamins as well......now california rolls have alot more cals due to the avocado and the immitation crab meat that they are typically made with...
