You have to burn more calories than you take in every day. Plain and simple. If you burn 2500 cals in a day between daily activities and exercise, then eat 2000. That's 1/1.5lbs a week safely, but you need to figure out TDEE. Google a TDEE calculator. A good one will ask your age, height, weight and amount of activity. Figure out your TDEE for your body and go from there.
