Yet another newbie!
I guess some back story is appropriate: I'm a retired 62 year old male. I'm 6"2" and for years up until 2000 I weighed only 186 pounds of good health and lean muscle. I had been skinny all of my previous life. Later in 2000 I quit smoking after doing so for more than 30+ years (and my mother died of COPD from smoking). Within a month of not smoking I realized food actually had taste! I didn't really over eat but I did enjoy food much more. Even though my (now EX) wife didn't feed me any different I started gaining weight. Nothing massive at first but years later it really started adding up. My heaviest has been 306 pounds a few months ago!!!
For the last week or so I've been skipping lunch and my total caloric intake each day has been less than 1000 calories per day. Missing lunch has been kind of rough but I'm now down to 298 pounds. Nothing earth shattering but heck, at least it's a little progress.
Exercise: NO CAN DO! In 2006 I suffered major disk herniations at L4 and L5. They wanted to fuse my spine but after seeing the metal mass they wanted to implant in me and after talking to MANY people that had that surgery I said NO! Now I live with excruciating pain on a daily basis. I've tried all manner of exercise equipment and they all cause even more pain. Last year I had a fall and damaged even more disks in my neck.
I've recently started using CBD oil tincture and CBD salve along with very high %THC vape pens. The CBD really helps with maybe 30% of the pain and the Marijuana THC helps with yet another 30% making my days almost bearable pain wise. Those uninformed of you that look down on marijuana for pain relief and think it should stay illegal in your state are absolute fools and are truly uniformed!!! CBD (while legal) and THC (still illegal in many states) are absolute Godsends for those of us that suffer with pain on a 24 hour basis. PLEASE don't vote to deny us that which so many can truly benefit from but is sadly still illegal in so many states.
OK. Off my soapbox now.
Exercise for me (at least maybe until I lose a LOT of weight) is 100% out of the question. Any further weight loss at this point will have to be food related. I tried the KETO diet with my daughter (that didn't need to lose weight) for about 7 months, The painful constipation even though I took daily stool softeners ended that idea! Now I'm back to watching calories, fat and sodium content. I don't buy anything until I read the nutrition label!
I haven't had ANY fast food since 2006. I have zero refined white sugar in my house and haven't had for years. I don't drink any soda, diet or otherwise. Still it's hard to shed any pounds. I'm getting a little crazy lately with portion control and the type of food I intend to eat at each meal. Maybe even close to starvation at 1000 calories?
This is my first post and I'm so sorry that it's such a long one. I've been recently trying my own diet that I think might help with my lack of exercise ability. It seems to be helping but I'm open to any diets OTHER THAN the so called miracle diets that pop up every week or so.
I'll stop now before I turn my first post into a book!![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
