Hi, everyone! First, i just want to express my appreciation for having a place like this to go to with my (probably silly!) question.
I've recently started to seriously try and lose some weight, get in shape and all around get healthier. The past couple of years have been rife with false starts and i've finally just gotten tired of it. Unfortunately, one of the reasons that always happened was that i just plain don't really know what to do. I'm completely clueless! Still, i didn't want to just sigh and say "forget about it" again, so since February or so i've sort of been trying to wean myself out of my sedentary lifestyle. Try to get a little more active, at least to the point where i was used to moving around enough so that i wouldn't get a cramp just by looking at a treadmill or something.
At the tail end of March, i guess you can say i've started my "routine" proper; at least a half hour on the stationary bike a day, as well as a brisk half hour walk sometime in the evening. While i suppose it's somewhat good that i'm at least doing something, i want to avoid doing things wrong.
And that's where i pretty much need help! I just don't know where to start. I guess i'm mostly interested in what i can do with the stationary bike and perhaps some calisthenics: right now i don't have much to work with apart from an old manual treadmill, said stationary bike, a couple of small weights lying around somewhere and my own two feet.
Ack, i always get a little too wordy. To sort of wrap this up, i'll give you an idea of how a day goes for me, routine-wise.
- Start of with breakfast; usually a bowl of cereal, an apple and a bottle of water.
- Anywhere from thirty to fourty minutes on the stationary bike, at a fairly brisk pace. I won't lie and say i'm racing here, but i always keep a steady, quick pace and never stop or slow down very much for any reason.
- Afterwards, i'll usually have a bowl of salad for an after-exercise meal; iceberg lettuce and a little bit of Italian dressing with a bottle of water. If we've recently had chicken i'll cut up some of the left-overs into little chunks to toss in as well.
- Dinner, which varies pretty wildly. Since i've started trying to get in shape, i've cut my portions down and always have a bottle of water.
- Sometime in the evening (could be anywhere from 7:00 to 9:00pm) i'll throw on my sneakers and go for a brisk walk around the neighborhood for at least a half hour.
And that's it! I'm willing to do pretty much whatever it takes, of course. I'm also in the middle of looking for new employment, preferably a job that will have me being active and moving around during the day as opposed to being stuck behind a desk, as well as being within walking distance so i could just stroll over and back.
Anyway, thanks a bunch for sitting through all of that, and i hope it wasn't too boring!
