I have PCOS and I am having a very difficult time trying lose weight. I am 27 years old and I am 5'6 275 lbs. Those of you that know of PCOS on knows that it is no fun. I just recently got married a few months ago and I want to get my body prepared for a baby. I have really irregular periods. Once I went two years without having one. I have been to a doctor and he thinks if I lose some of the weight things will fall into place. I want to drop at least a 100 lbs but I need some help. Anything you know that is helpful will be greatly appreciate. I just really want to get rid of this weight.

Hi ShirlisaB!, Welcome to the forum! And congrats on getting married!

I'm sorry that you have to deal with PCOS. I'm not that familiar with it, but I understand that it is not fun at all. If you have any resources on it, I would love to learn more.

Many of the members here journal their progress in the diary section. That way you can get some feedback with your daily routine and be able to track what you are doing and see if there are any changes you can make. Do you have any plan for what you would like to do for exercise? Whatever it is that you do, I would suggest starting off slow to avoid injuries and/or burnout. And as for food, before you make a lot of changes it is sometimes helpful to just track your normal eating (and drinking) habits for a few days and write everything down. Then you can start deciding what to change. I usually don't suggest making sweeping changes all at once because it can be hard to maintain. I normally suggest making small, manageable changes that you can build into your routine. Then as those things get easier, add another small but healthy change.

There is no perfect solution and no perfect journey to get there. The most important thing is to maintain your healthy changes for the long term!

Good luck and I look forward to reading about your progress! And definitely ask questions if you have them.

Hi Shirlisa and Welcome to the Forum,

My daughter deals with PCOS and I think (based on what I've read) that I probably dealt with it my entire life as well.
My daughter (22 y/o) was given a prescription that is supposed to help, I'll check with her and find out what it is. The big key with PCOS is to reduce carbs. I'm not suggesting full Keto but everything I've read says that carbs and sugar should be reduced.

Diabetes is very common with people with PCOS so eating a diet low on the glycemic index would be really good too.

Hi, shirlisab & welcome to the forum. We have had many members in here with PCOS & I have seen what a struggle it can be for them. A friend of mine did lose a substantial amount of weight on a very strict diet many years ago but I know it was a struggle for her.
Increasing your protein intake & lowering your carbs appears to be very important. Are you able to see a well qualified dietitian?
