Sport Trying to create a diet plan...

Sport Fitness
Hi all, im new here and looking for a bit advice and guidance! ;)

First of all, I can imagine you get dozens and dozens of new folks every day asking for advice with weight loss, food tips etc. So I will start by telling you a little bit about myself.

Im Chris, from Newcastle in the UK and im 22 years old! I work for the North-East Ambulance Service and have recently finished my Foundation Degree in Community and Public Services. In the near future, i'd like to look into the possibility of becomming a fully trained paramedic.

When i was in my teens, i used to train 3-4 times a week, by going to the gym, playing football (soccer) and boxing training. I was very fit, especially for my age, and I could practically eat anything and not gain weight! (Like most youngsters lol).

When I was 20, I had my appendix removed, and ever since then, my motivation to exercise went down hill, I gained about 3 and a half stone within a few months (obviously not being able to exercise at first), and my diet basically turned crappy really. (Settling down with my girlfriend probs played a part in the change too mind lol).

Anyways, i've recently decided that i want to become more active, like I used to be, and im hoping to lose a few stone. Im currently 13 and a half stone, and im about 5 foot 9. Over the last month I have totally cut out junk food, such as pizzas, general takeaway crap and fatty snacks etc.

At the moment, i feel as though im trying to eat as little as possible, by eating mostly fruit at work and a tin of soup for my lunch. When I get home from work, ready to go to the gym, I really feel like I have no energy in me whatsoever in order to work out. This is obviously down to eating hardly anything, therefore taking in no energy.

I really do not know what type of foods I should be eating, and how many calories I should be taking in per day (bearing in mind I want to lose weight). When I go to the supermarket I find myself avoiding foods which are probably not so bad really, I just get a bit paranoid (I know, how silly).

I love my girlfriend, shes gorgeous, and I want to feel great about myself like I used to! (There, I said it) lol.

My knowledge on nutrition is pretty below average, so any advice will be really appreciated!

Thanks folks :)

Chris!

What's up Chris! I can understand what you're going through. From all of the information that I've read, a couple of the constants are to get into physical activities that you enjoy and consistency won't be a problem. If you enjoyed soccer and boxing when you were younger, then get back into those sports slowly. As far as diets and eating go, I'm always hearing that as long as you're burning more calories than you're consuming, weight loss is almost inevitable. Starving yourself can lead to malnutrition and low energy. Those are some of the most common things that I hear as I look for information to better myself. Hope it helps or gives some insight.

Hey there Wellness and thanks for taking the time to reply to this!

Is it possible to burn more calories than what you consume in a day? Without feeling light headed etc.

As i've said my knowledge on nutrition is rather limited (Damn I wish I took more notice in Science at school) lol!

My biggest problem, really, is knowing what to eat and what not to eat, whilst training in order to lose weight. Also, the difference between fat and saturated fat. Its embarrassing really, I should know this stuff.

As i've said, im looking to lose a bit weight, but tone up at the same time.

Again, thanks for the reply :) Much appreciated.
