Treadmill vs. Track

So! as some of you might know I am new to running and I have been alternating walking and jogging each lap for 2 miles each night at a local track. However, in the past few days I have been running on my mom's treadmill which she never uses.. I noticed that for some reason it is easier on my body to run on the treadmill..

I thought maybe the treadmill's quarter mile was shorter or something.. but I actually measured a quarter mile on the machine with a yard stick and it is actually a bit longer!!

the only thing I can think of that might be changing is wind resistance??? but the air is really calm around here so I dont know how much of an effect that has on my body. as a comparison though, I can jog 1 lap on the track before my body wants to walk but I can go for at least 1/2 mile on the treadmill before I need to turn the speed down a bit. I sweat the same, if not, more on the treadmill (as if to express that it is not actually 'easier') so I am considering using the machine more often.

what do yall' think?

thanks!

what kind of treadmill is it?? Some treadmills are built with a cushion system that makes it easier on the joints, thus making a longer, harder work-out?
