Treadmill Assistance / Jogging

I'll start off by saying that about a month ago I began working out for the first time. I do have a personal trainer that I will be working with over the next several months but I also would love opinions from here as well.

I currently have a 2-2 1/2 hour routine I go through and I usually begin and end it with the treadmill. Currently I am able to walk 1 mile on the treadmill at 3.2mph with 0 incline but I want to improve on that and include jogging as well. How much should I jog? Should I break it up by doing walking/jogging/walking/etc? I'm curious as to the best way to incorporate this into my workout.

Thanks in advance!

Hello again! I just posted on another thread of yours!

My suggestion would be to do a run/walk type program where you initially jog for 30 - 60 seconds, then walk for 60 - 120 sec, depending on how comfortable you are with it. Over time, slowing increase your jogging interval and decrease the number of walking intervals.

If you find that jogging isn't quite manageable yet, try doing 30 - 60 sec intervals with some incline instead of increasing the speed. Then lower the incline back to 0% for 60 - 120 sec, catch your breath, then repeat 5- 7 times, or however long it takes to get to your goal distance.

Remember to do at least a 5 min warm up (walking with little or no incline) first and then at least a 5 min cool down. :)
