Does anyone know what the deal is with training near your maximum heart rate? I'm 25, and after looking at a few MHR calculations mine is around 190. I'm fairly fit, rest heart rate is about 60, but I've started to pick up the pace with my training lately to get ready for a big bike ride we're doing later this year.
When I do normal cardio, my heart rate is around 160 and all is well, but when I do heavy uphills my heart rate can creep into the 180's for a minute or two. Now usually at that point I'm pushing myself as hard as I could go and after a couple of minutes of that I have to slow down, so my heart rate drops back to more normal levels.
I just want to check that it isn't dangerous to train quite so close to your MHR. I want to get fit but I don't want to risk having a heart attack or anything.
