training for olympic tri and maintaining muscle

Hi everybody i am new to this site and hope to get and give some useful information, this summer i will be training for an olympic triathlon. i have been studying up on my training program and realize how intense the cardio will be, but i would like to maintain my muscle mass. i have stayed in good physical shape my whole life and eat pretty healthy. i understand that with doing muscle building and maintaining, and a intense cardio workout you need to up your calorie intake, i am just curious to any other tips or information on how i can maintain this muscle while training for some intense cardio? any info will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Dan

I do triathlons regularly (sprints up to half iron and my first full iron in September) and maintain my muscle mass by regularly working out with weights. Triathlon training will result in lowered testosterone levels which can have various problems, including cardiac issues. Working out with weights can minimize or prevent this testosterone loss.
