has anyone used toxin cleansers or body wraps? im curious to see if they work, and your stories if they did/didnt work and what you used. i apologize if this thread has already been posted. new here. hi! :waving:

Waste of time and money. Body wraps don't do anything but dehydrate you and your body is perfectly capable of clearing itself of "toxins" (such as they are) if you just eat a healthy and balanced diet and drink lots of water.

Hey Kara,

Oh and btw, I really like your "making better bad choices" message, too! :coolgleamA:

What do you think about a colon cleanse? Am 44, and have been thinking about having one - I must have a back log - from years of bingeing....

My brother in law died of cancer when he was 40, anyway he was not overweight or anything but he had a colon cleanse and was recommending it to all of us - he said he wished he'd done it years ago.

I must admit am put off the idea if its just one of those silly - lose weight fast gimmics - that I'm thinking it may be - but having said that I do like the idea of a bit of a healthy clean up while actually eating healthy and drinking plenty of water - and staying on a healthy track!!!
I actually do want to look after my body!

I have been doing a little research and came across this link:

:cheers2:

I think colon cleanses are a load of hooey. No one has stuff "backed up" in their colon really. Your body does a fine job of getting rid of stuff in the colon if you just eat healthily and drink lots of water.

colon cleanses are good!

I have colonic irrigation once a year and there make you feel great! Of course people get rid of waste the natural way but some of it ends up being stuck in the walls of your intestines as it is so long and bendy. This then turns toxic and penetrates through the waal of it and into your system. Over time it takes a lot of your body's efforts to try and rid itself of the toxins and this becomes harder as we get older and more and more build up has occured. I know a bowel surgeon and he agrees. He sees caked on waste that has been there for years, and those people had died from it in the long run (or short run)! We eat too much junk for our bodies to cope with getting rid of it all naturally. Mass produce, chemicals, colourings, man made so called food and worse. How can it be possible to get rid of all that? We're not robots!:::ack2:

Actually, the only time you should get any sort of 'colon cleaning' is by a certified doctor's advice. I don't know where you got your info but this idea that things get 'stuck' in your colon is bull. Complete bull. It doesn't work like that.

Our digestive system is one of the most perfect evolutionary systems ever found. Here...read this..

Mayo Clinic > quack docs and quackier fake crap they sell

Weight loss doesn't come from a pill, a rinse, a wrap, a rub, a paste, a gel, an injection or anything from Madison Avenue.

Weight loss comes from calories in vs calories out.

Well the lady that does mine says she gets referals from the hospital. Also some people she sees generally have been sent to hospital as she can see blood in their stools when the person hadn't spotted it. This can save your live if treatment is given fast enough. Colonic cleansing has been around forever anyway, in some form or another. Yes people can get by without and might live to be over 100, but some would benefit from a good clearing out, maybe it would do you good. Also, if our bodies are so good on their own, why is it that traces meat is found in peoples intestines that has been there for years! Vegetarians have had traces of meat found in them, years after they had even eaten it!:piggy:

I have a problem with any medical technique that has been twisted into a business for advertisers.

guess what? Colon cleaning does nothing for blood in the stool cause that can come from several factors that 'colon cleaning' does nothing for. Hell yes you need to go to the doctor cause of that because it could be a sign of internal bleeding such as a cut in the colon.

Want the clear cut answer..if you are wondering about your colon then go see the doctor and don't listen to any of our advice on a web forum, mine or otherwise. This is a MEDICAL deal you should be talking to your doctor about. There is a reason they spend all that time in medical school.

They are also blinkered into looking at other ways to treat people. They said accupuncture was rubbish a few years ago and now they have practitioners working in the hospitals! If it doesn't make the government money they poo poo it usually!:ack2:

Hi everyone,

Well I have been trying to research both sides of the debate...... Wikipedia seems quite "anti" colon cleansing..... and those that seem to push it - are the ones with products to sell!

No scientific evidence supports the alleged benefits of colon cleansing. The bowel itself is not dirty and barring drugs or disease, cleans itself naturally without need for assistance.
The benefits anecdotally attributed to colon cleansing are vague and the claims made by manufacturers and practitioners are based on a flawed understanding of the body. There is little evidence of actual benefit to the procedure, and no evidence that it can alleviate the symptoms that are attributed to the theories of colon cleansing. No surgeries, autopsies or other observations of colons have discovered any evidence of compacted feces or other evidence to support the theory of auto-intoxication or the need for colon cleansing. There is no evidence that frequent bowel movements result in better health or longer life.

Having said that I think that fasting (which a lot of the treatments seem to incorporate as part of the cleanse) is actually good for all of us. One book I've read talks about fasting once a week - for say a meal, or 24 hours, then say once every 6 months - fasting for 3 days! I think that would probably be a better alternative than some of these herbal ideas...???

I am not doing any fasting at the moment, as I'm trying to stabilise and balance out my eating habits and weight. From past experience, I tend to over compensate when I come off fasts..... so anyway, baby steps for me!

Alrighty, this is stuff I actually study, so I can contribute. weee.

Ok, the straight poop (pardon the pun) on colon cleansings is this basically.... its a high fiber diet with lots of water. Go read the labels, they pretty much have one thing in common.. the fiber equivalent of eating a wicker chair. if you want to look at it from the holistic side, just basically picture fiber as natures little scrubbie pad for your intestines, alrighty?

most of the items you'll see in most cleansings and treatments are basically 'just eat good food and complete meals'.

Other methods are good for purposes not really in their descriptions.. skin cleansings? you know, that whole bathe in apple cider vinegar & epsom salts for 30 minutes and scrub yourself? Can't really day it pulls heavy metals out of your skin, but used daily for a week or two, its one hell of an exfoliator

Thanks BigD, yeah I haven't seen anything on the internet around "surgeries, autopsies or other observations of colons have discovered any evidence of compacted feces or other evidence to support the theory of auto-intoxication" so yes am thinking its about healthy lifestyle - rather than some kind of drastic and rather gross looking and potentially dangerous "clean out". :icon_bs:

I've had the 'pleasure' of seeing the results of my 77 year old mother's colonoscopy and hers was clean as a whistle. I really doubt the claims of pounds of undigested food in people's colons.

if I recall my readings correctly, it is entirely possible to get spots of an almost plaque like build up here and there on a somewhat temporary basis, but that's generally more a result of needing more water than anything. here's a thing to remember, all that internal plumbing? lines with mucous membranes.. which sheds.. you guessed it, mucus..

actually, i do recommend the skin thing to a lot of people actually, Gets that nasty rhino skin off my elbows pretty good. hahahaha.

Older people, don't really eat the same crap that younger people have been brought up on though. They've had better foods for most of their lives. Also, not everyone's got the same problems. A healthier inside makes a healthier outside!

A healthier inside is a healthier outside. That is why you should talk to your doctor about these matters and change your lifestyle to one that is better than fast food and the crap that many do put in their systems.

We are all working on the same thing, a better life.
