As of tomorrow, I'll have been walking 10k a day for a week. So far, I'm not totally impressed (at least with the weight loss aspect). Last week I gained 2 pounds back and then lost half a pound. I guess this yo-yoing is just muscle building and my body adjusting to the new routine, but I'm really surprised I put all that on.
It's been cited many places that a change in diet with exercise actually helps weight loss faster than diet alone. I've never had any success losing weight with exercise alone so hopefully this will be different.
The thing that has been a little tough is re-estimating my calories with the exercise. .
I work on a computer at home so going up to 10k steps has more than doubled my regular steps. The first few days I was sore. I used to run... a lot. Even did a marathon a few years ago so this is hard on me as I totally feel like a wuss for getting sore just by walking. I think part of the problem last week is I was robbing myself of calories because I was still eating as a sedentary person rather than someone who is mildly active. Can you believe that's a 100+ daily calorie difference??? I didn't think about it as I thought 10k steps wasn't a big deal, but I increased my cals on Sunday and I feel so much better
Anyhow, all that aside, I know this walking is healthy. I get fresh air, sun (very good for me as I have Seasonal Affective Disorder), and I'm taking the dogs along with so they are getting exercise too.
On another note, I excited about a honeymoon excursion to the Keys in October. My two bathing suits were starting to get loose on me so last week I hit Kohls and bought 3 tankinis on clearance ($45 for all three!). They're all really cute! I purposely bought them smaller than what I fit now. One is a little snug, and the other two are definitely too tight (for now--bruhaha!).
I figured these tankinis would be fun motivators, and they'll save me lots of time and money for a new suit when we get to the Keys.
