Too few calories?

My doctor told me that my calorie needs to maintain my same weight is around 1200 calories, I then read on another website that to loose 2 pounds a week, I should cut my daily calorie intake by 500 calories. That leaves me only eating 700 calories a day which doesn't seem like very much. Is that healthy?

what is your current weight? there are calorie calculators all over the net that will give you an approximate number of calories to maintain your current weight -- 1200 - even if you are a total couch potato is very very low... Not that I would question a member of the medical profession, but i think your doc is a little mistaken.. or perhaps suggested that you go on a 1200 calorie diet... 700 calories a day, unless it's medically supervised is dangerous...

There is a woman in this forum who is doing around 800 calories a day, and I am spacing on her name, but she is under medical supervision while doing it.. Doing it that low on your own you are correct to question.

Hey. Explore this website a little.
It may help. If you are really concerned with losing weight, I would stick with a 1,200 calorie diet and fit in more exercise. At least until you find out for sure what you should be eating.

Good Luck :)

Mistaken?

1200 calories would maintain someone that weighs 95lbs. I multiply my weight by 13, so at 150lbs. I can eat 1900 to maintain. It seems to work fine. Maybe you can just reduce 100-200 calories or exercise 1/2 hour a day which would burn like 75 calories. In a few months you can lose about 10lbs. I'm assuming you are around 4'10? I don't understand why a doc would tell you 1200 calories would maintain your weight, unless you have an extremely slow metabolism or are on medication. You sure he didn't say 2200, that would maintain a 170lb. person.
