Toning and fat burning.

Hi I'am confused with toning and fat burning. I'am 155 lbs, and have big broad shoulders, and for that reason I do not try to build muscle there. So how can I burn fat off of my arms, stomach, BACK, and of course the lower body; the thighs. I do not know if toning is necessary if you already have enough muscle, but its used to tighten your skin after weight loss??

Hey

I know the general consensus is that you can't spot reduce.

For me the term toning up is just making the muscle more visible when the fat around it reduces.

Its important to lift weights whilst dieting to preserve muscle mass.

If I can help more let me know.

Most people have muscle hiding underneath the fat! If your main purpose at the moment is to lose fat, then plenty of cardio will definitely help. However, light weight training will help you to preserve the muscle you already have and will also help to increase your metabolism, which means you will burn more calories even at rest.

I would say that a combination of cardio and endurance weight training 15-20 rep max, would be a good way to lose the fat, reveal the muscle and not look bulky.

Nutrition is obviously key too. Some people say it is as important as 80% of your fat loss. Make sure you are eating enough lean protein to support muscle growth. Eat little and often, 5-6 meals a day and use an online calorie calculator to work out how many calories you should be eating for weight loss.

Rosyxmelissa,

maybe as an alternative you can do circuit training with light weights. This is a fun way to make the workout high intensity and turn your body into acalorie burning machine.
