Tom's Journal

Hey all, I am 17 and I started dieting/ excercising more because I'm tired of feeling unfit.

Height 6'1"
(no i'm not too muscley or too toned)

Original Pants Size: 35-36
Original Weight: 204
Original Weight Goal: 160

195 (below)

First 2 months: First week I weighed close to 204 or so which is way heavy for me way.. way.. way.. heavy, I went on a vacation and went to San Diego which really is a great place fitness wise and dropped about 10 pounds or so there. I first started thinking that I should fast to 1 meal per day then realized about 4 days later "THIS WILL ONLY LOWER MY METABOLISM! When I get out of it i'll just gain weight". Then I started running about 4 miles everyday weekdays and wakeboarding sundays, and eating cereal with 0% fat/ sat fat as meals (2) a day. Well over a couple of weeks I did however start to see results, I dropped from about 194 or so to 187.

187 (below)

Next 2 months: Now I started going outside playing football etc. instead of watching T.V. and boring stuff of that nature. Then I started going to gym with my neighbor/ friend then started doing cardio, I also have been eating alot less fast food and have been trying to keep it under 1200 calories a day. I have been eating fast food on and off. But alot less then I used to. Have been eating between the following meals.. If out food I prefer to eat (Subway 6 inch haha), or caesar salad at restraunts. For the last 3 weeks i've been eating out a good ammount but have been excercising. I currently weight around 168. Now if I laugh I can see my top abdominals, and can see my ribs. Although I still got (some) love handles now, the main area's im looking for results in is (my back near shoulder blades has a little fat, stomach, pecks aka breasts, and other areas).

I will take some pictures tommorow, but i'd like to see if I'm nuts or not because I see some changes, not to big for 20 pounds but some.

Pants Size Now: 32-33
Current Weight: 167-169
New Weight Goal: 150

now as you can see I haven't gone through extreme changes in physique, but I can see my top abs (not really that I try to have any there just there). The love handles are still present they seem like they are nearly impossible to get off but I know it takes time! :(

the picture quality isn't that great but also my hip bones are starting to poke out.

p.s. weight loss during the winter sucks because you get colder from less body fat haha.

Well you are losing weight but its not all fat and are eating way to few calories. This is why you are seeing little body composition changes but still dropping weight. Numbers are numbers, you want lean mass and body fat% changes to occur when losing fat.

You need to get into a solid lifting program and up the calories. Put in some good lean proteins, good fats and good carbs. Read around the boards in the sticky sections for some more info. Good Luck.

So your saying I could theoretically weigh 130 and still see no change in physique (130 is way to low though for my height im just using that as a low number)? That just seems to sound odd to me.

So weird.. I never knew this, so lets say I do up my calories. Usually I eat 2 meals a day and that's about it. So eat 5-8 meals a day, I forget where I saw this quote but i'll say it "5-8 Smaller meals are better than 3 big meals, because it will increase your metabolism". So let's say I do, do this I'll say I eat about 6 meals a day I honestly don't know what I can eat as meals that many times a day . I just want to drop in fat I really don't have the desire to bulk up at this point fat first I think. I've always figured if I eat that many times a day you'd have to increase your physical activity by alot. Some days I am not as active as others.

If anyone has any suggestions or corrections on this list below, please say it.

Lots of water goal is to have 5 glasses a day
7:00 AM'ish: A Bowl of Cereal (Early, damnit I love to sleep in)
9:00 AM'ish: some fruit such as (strawberries, bananas, grapes some beef jerky for protein I figure mid morning)
12:00 PM'ish: salad, sandwhich, or something meaty for lunch
3:00 PM'ish: some fruit such as (strawberries, bananas, grapes some beef jerky
4:30 PM'ish: for protein I figure mid evening)
5:30 PM'ish: some fruit or snacks such as (strawberries, bananas, grapes some beef jerky for protein I figure mid late evening)
7:00 PM'ish: then dinner

Now let's say I do eat like this what if I cannot get much physical activity wouldn't that only contribute to gaining fat? And for nutrition, the fat % per meal what should I be looking out for or trying to keep per meal?

I think I understand why i'm not seeing extreme changes in physique if I kept doing what I am doing I think it would work but wouldn't see too many changes very soon. I am eating 2 meals a day which means it is taking those meals and storing them as fat and that's why my fat isn't going down very fast. If I ate more in smaller portions it would use it as energy, aka metabolism. Mine is low and stores the food I use as fat. I see now.

you're not really going to see "extream" changes. they'll take time, hun.

Well yeah I know but I mean just in general over a long period of time, I ate alot about 5-6 times today didn't have much water though, I'm thinking of considering going back to 2 meals the meals I eat are pretty large and I'll just continue with what I usually do because it works and my I am used to it. I guess I'm just afraid it'll just result in gaining weight. Most people eat 2-3 meals a day, gahh I'm just so confused on what I should do nutrition wise.

Today this is what I ate.

Woke up at about 10:14 and had the following schedule:

10:20 or so: 1 bowl of cereal with fat free milk (I grew up with fat free milk so I'm used to it)
11:30: A banana
1:15: same as 10:20
3:15: A barbecued hamburger with cheese wrapped in lettuce
4:40: A banana
7:00: 4-4 and 1/2 of French toast

god that seems like a lot of food to me. I was also pretty active all day long.

Honestly... your diet looks like crap. You're not going to see any healthy changes until you clean it up.

yeah it does. :(

i guess i'll look around the forums for some examples of what people eat because tbh I'm a picky eater that's why I don't have a good idea of what to eat.

You can get over being a picky eater if you want to. It's all in your head.

Yeah I'm alot better than I used to be which is progess.

Oh yeah I found pictures, and I myself can say wow.

Back awhile ago

About a month ago or so (I looked horrible in this picture I don't know why)

Now

I'm pretty pale right now because I think I'm coming down with the flu or a cold.

P.S. As you can see I tried keeping the same face in all the pictures so you could see the difference only problem was it's cloudy out and I can't find that brown shirt lol.

that's the change I've seen so far anyways.
