One of my masters swimmers clued me into a site called "swimplan.com". For those of you without a plan or who need a swift kick in the rear regarding your swim sessions-this is a GREAT site. It takes down your personal fitness information and goals to tailor a swim workout just for your own individual needs. It even includes bunches of drills! I've signed up and I'll do my first one tonight.

Thanks for the link, Sparrow! I have already signed up. It was nice to indicate that I am not the lowest category of swimming ability;)

Thanks Sparrow! I signed up too. Although, unlike G8r80, they didn't even have a category low enough for me. :( I had to exagerate my abilities just to make it into the lowest category.

lol. Oh Drex :luxlove: hugs to you. It will get better with time.

Cool site I had a quick look. When I train all my training is open water though. Any sites for that?

I actually did google it :) Nothing that I see as formally as this other site but just a lot of stuff on stroke count/stroke rate, timed intervals and various treading water techniques to increase core strength (vertical kicking). I'd love to do more open water-lucky you :)

In the summer, most of my swimming is open water. I do most of my drills in the pool but one drill I like to do in open water is "heads up" swimming. It's basically to get used to the mass start at an event. You swim freestyle but you keep your head above water. It's really good for working the back and neck and obviously helps you get through the initial crowds of a mass start.

As far as technique goes, you kind of figure out your own rhythm. I would try doing 30 seconds of heads up and then 30 seconds of normal freestyle. I find that I get more out of breath when I'm doing heads up swimming but I think my stroke count is higher when my head is out of water.

Yeah its great having open water 20 seconds walk from your front door. Im actually considering taking up an event in march next year. Sometimes I find my best training is jumping in swimming as far as I can tread water as you say and then swim back haha

Interesting if im on patrol and ever have to do a tube rescue I use a chin up stroke but if I am training I swim face down. The good thing about doing so many rescues is that you get really good at swimming in a straight line. I can swim straight and have no trouble now.

All this swimming talk has me feeling like going for a surf. Pity there are no waves.
