Sport To eat or not before morning workout?

Sport Fitness
Hi I'm in the gym at 9am of a week day but I can't seem to eat before I workout because I'm worried I will start feeling really full and gassy or sick:eek: What do you think?
Do you eat before your morning workout if so what?

I get home 11am and I'm starving.

Thanks

I eat 1/2 a banana and drink a 1/2 a glass of water before my workout and I am getting up at 5 am and I'm not hungary or thirsty at that time. I find that if I don't, I start getting a little light headed in the middle of my workout.

If its fatburning exercise its no problem to do it in the morning on an empty stomach, infact since the insulinlevels are so low at this time a larger portion of the energy needed will be taken from bodyfat.

There is a big debate over the validity of the theory that you burn more fat in a fasted state. There has been evidence to show that you do, while other evidence and studies show that you don't.

There is still no definitive answer on this one (in spite of what Bill Phillips says).

Listen to your body. How well do you perform on an empty stomach? Are your workouts as long and intense, or do you find yourself lacking when you start to get hungry?

I always try to take in some type of protein and a low gly carbo. I have always heard/read that you need some crabs to burn fat and prevent catabolism

I used to workout fasted but I have made it a habit to eat before or I won't get in all the calories I need for the day. At first it was hard for me since I was used to being all "cleaned out" when exercising (I run) but now I can't funtion without it and my workouts are way more intense thanks to the fuel. I also feel as soon as I started doing that I started making much better progress with my goals with my body. I either have a shake of 1 c skim milk and 2 scoops whey (320 cals) or 1 serving oatmeal, 4 egg whites and 1 egg scrambled. (300 cals). If I lift and then do cardio I do the shake meal, and do the oatmeal one post workout. If I do only cardio I do the oatmeal one first and the shake one second. Its worked for me. I eat about an hour before the gym.

i'd say

if ur gonna do cardio before resistance training, run with an empty stomach
then, when your gonna workout with weights, eat something like a protein bar or something.

A lot of different answers here. I will tell you like I tell all my clients. If you don't eat don't expect to perform and don't expect to see results. Sounds a little harsh, but bare with me.
First off, we need to know when you wake up?
The human body (male or female) will generally need to eat every 2-4 hours it is awake.
Second, how advance are you and what are you trying to accomplish with training?
If you are sleeping 6-8 hours a night......you have just fasted 6-8 hours a night (if your last meal was a t bedtime). Your body wakes up feening for glycogen(sugar). Starve it and it will seek out sugar where it must for survival. It won't be fat....it's gonna go for muscle and liver (the process is called gluceogenesis). While your body feeds on its own muscle it will store some newly processed sugar in the adipose tissue (fat). You don't want that.

I have a few clients who hate eating in the morning. What seems to work well with them is the supplementation of BCAA (get it at any health store) and a good carb/electrolyte drink (gatorade works nice). They have become more optimal at the gym. The more optimal you train the more results you will see.
Please give us some basic info here:
When do you wake up?
What are your goals?
Where is your fitness level?(beginner, intermediate, advance, elite)
Are there any blood pressure problems?

Goodluck

Completely agree with TrainTy here. Most people talk about post work out nutrition which is extremely important in itself. However, pre-workout nutrition is also very important. I drink a shake containing whey protein and some maltodextrine pre and post.
