Well the subject says it all. I want to work out, but I hate feeling like a moron jumping around my room making noise to overly hyper people from DVDs.

I lost my job recently and I can't afford to buy any weights.

Does anyone know any kind of exercise routine I can do indoors (not a good idea to work outside just yet)? I really would like to just pump iron, something that makes me feel strong, but that's not an option yet.

I have been working out in my room for months now.. First I started just running in place, to get used to my heart rate being up. Yeah I felt like a moron, but I wanted to get fit. So I did that, combined with situps, pushups, dips, and other things I could just do with my body. Then I bought an elliptical machine and some dumbells and that's what I do now. It's working great! And I haven't left my room once.

If weight loss is your goal, weight lifting is the last thing that's critical to fat loss. Sure, ideally it's part of a fat loss plan for reasons well beyond losing fat. However though, diet and caloric expenditure will be the primary catalyst for fat loss.

Sure, you burn calories lifting weight.... but in general, not as much as you do during a bout of cardiovascular exercise. And it's much easier to create consistent caloric deficits through diet manipulation and a handful of cardio sessions each week.

I'm not saying you are assuming this.... but weight lifting doesn't automatically change your body.

Oh, and feeling stupid dancing around your room to some DVD is a product of your imagination. Especially considering the fact that nobody's watching. You're doing this to get healthy and lose weight. People concerned about looking good while doing it usually don't last very long, at least from my experience.

C25k

I know that you said you didn't want to go out side, but I've been doing the C25k running program - that's couch to 5 kilometres. It's great for beginners, if you google it you will find the running schedule all planned out for you, and it's free (if you do it outside)

You can run inside but you'd need a treadmill.

I know it doesn't fill all your current criteria but maybe you could remember it for when the weather is better.

Good luck

Uh, it's not about "looking good". Like I said, I prefer to do something that makes me feel stronger. I don't care if something burns more calories I care if I enjoy what I'm doing. Jumping around like a fool isn't something I enjoy and WON'T do for a long term. Don't make so many assumptions, it's offensive.

See I can run outside, but I prefer something indoors that I can do for awhile to get down a couple of sizes and get some weight off of my knees. Tey're very bad since I tore the ligaments in both. I just would like to do something that isn't so trying on the knees (also why I like weight lifting, floor exercises). I had a treadmill and after a week my legs were in too much pain.

UH, no, that's not what you said. You said exactly:

How do you suppose one takes that?

I like it when people forget that the words they type are a few posts above their current post and amazingly, deny saying what they said.

The Interwebz!!111 = Fantasy Land for most I suppose.

This is offensive to you? Oh my.... you might have come to the wrong place looking for advice The internet isn't a place to be coddled.

You have fun on the forum. I'm sure you're going to make a lot of friends. :)

You're doing great so far.

Next time you ask for advice, I'll be sure to read right past.

Well when I started working out, BEFORE I even started exercising, I made a list of stretching exercises to start with then a list calisthenics/floor exercises I knew could do and would cover each area of my body.

Walking also is a great exercise, so if you can get outside, you could walk as well as do your floor exercises.

Throw on some music you like listening to that will inspire you to keep going.

If you have cable or sattelite, you might check out the Housecalls show on FitTV. A couple of trainers go to someone's house and devise a workout program for them using the items that they have at their house. Although probably not ideal, maybe it could help you get started until you can get to a gym.
