Tips running 400 yard dash in track?

Hey everyone, Im currently in track and they have chosen me to run in the 400 yard dash this meet (wednesday march 8th) So that means I have 8 days to prepare and get in shape. But I am out of breath at about 300 yards if im running 100 percent is there any tips you would reccomend for getting in shape so I can run the 400 yards sucessfully? Im pretty quick I got 14 seconds on my 120 yard dash if that matters at all.... Im just afraid im going to completly fail on running the 400 yards if I dont get in shape..fast. I was only planning on running 100-200 yards so

Any tips would be appreciated,
Thanks

Anyone? I ran today I got 70 seconds on the 400 as a practice not sure if thats good I could do better but I really need some tips, should I tell coach to take me off of doing 400?

Well today I ran it in the meet, got 3rd place! First place for our school though anyways I was EXTREMLY out of breath after it and I mean it, not sure if it was an andrenaline rush but my vision started getting darker and everything felt extremly weak I pinched my leg but felt nothing, Finnaly after 10 minutes of catching my breath I started this aweful cough sorta like weezing but not exactly and that lasted for 30 minutes. Is this because im out of shape, health problem, or i just ran it to hard? I was really concerned, anyways I talked to my coach to get me in shorter distances.

Sorry I didnt find this sooner.

you cant improve fittness and skill in 8 days, not to make much of a diffrence anyway.

8days before you should have started the morning eatting as much protien as poss and as many carbs, gone to the gym and done 5x5 front and back squats.

then rested for 4-5days and practised you rythm for 3day before the race.

warming up and running 400m as if you were racing 3-4 times per day.
still eatting as much food as you can get hold of.

that way you have practised your timing, and you know where and when to run flat out, and you have strengthened your legs slightly.

Yeah thanks for answering that but I still dont know why I had the difficulty breathing and loss of sight after the race....

cos you burned too much energy. its a fitness problem not a health issue.

when you say you lost sight do you mean its went dark/blue and you felt pressure on your eyes? if so then you just over did it,

yeah everything just started going dim like what happens when your almost ready to goto sleep, but i guess i over did it because i was trying to impress a girl i liked up in the stands.

Sounds like you need to breathe more. But really, ask your coach on how to improve technique. To run faster you'll need to strengthen yourself. You can do this by lifting weights. Don't run 100% in the beginning. Give it about 75% in the beginning, and in the final half or so, pour on the juice. The percentages are estimated, but the principle is the same.
