Tips on losing fat

Hi,
About me: Male / 18 / No idea about height (but 6ft I think etc) - I should really use the machine at my gym that gives you your fat percentage etc...!

Anyway, I am trying to lose to fat/weight. I'm not fat at all, I'm think around my waist (29/30"), but this is because all my fat are in 3 main areas
1) Ass - you can clutch a handful on the cheeks!
2) Sides of waist - not that much
3) Top legs (not so much here either, but there is stuff to lose).

I was wondering the best way to go about losing this? I am at a gym, and run quite a lot (I enjoy doing it). For example, I run quite fast for up to 20/30minutes at a time, and I'm trying to do a minimum of 40minutes a time when I go. But I don't really use the other machines for cardio.

Is there any other machines that could help (there are a lot of machines around, those like ski things, rowing machines, step machines (like running up steps, it's like a 8ft machine).

Also, I am trying to get into running on the road as well, as I enjoyed it when I was doing it last year. Would people recomment going to the gym AND running in the same day? Or seperate days? I run quite a lot, so my fitness is good, and I wont be getting injuries by suddenly doing so, so if people think it'll help then I guess I will try it - although slightly stuck for time right now!

My diet is good, I look out for what I eat, and don't snack or eat fast food as such, I just want to get rid of the fat which is probably there from my childhood from when I didn't care what I ate!

Any information / advice is appreciated!

Well, I don't get the impression that you are lifting weights. I think weight training should be the mainstay of your workout. Train your whole body. Adding muscle to your body will make it more efficient at burning fat.

I am also doing weights too, yes. At the moment I am doing a 2hour gym workout - usually about 45minutes of tredmill and the rest with weights (most of these on my top half of my body - as my leg muscles (at the top) are very large - I can feel and see them - which may give me the impression it's fat, when it's not) but I am also working on my lower leg muscles now.

So I am doing this too, I'd just like some advice about lowering the fat in those areas (although I've read up on it a bit here, and it seems that you can't target the areas of fat, so I guess I'll just have to keep at it and it'll slowly reduce!)

Yeah unfortunately you can't spot reduce. The fat melts off where it wants too. You may have to manipulate your diet some and see if you can lose some of your bodyfat

One thing I might add to this discussion is that some people are merely predisposed to a somewhat "fatty" look. No matter how hard they try, they still look slightly flabby. Probably if you find after a while you can't cut it, you should consult a nutritionist.

Another thing is, generally with weight lifting, if you do it enough you eventually start to look fat rather than cut. I'm not sure how long you've been lifting but that's a slight possibility.

Now I pretty much know nothing but what I've learned from my father over the years. I lifted with him when I was younger. My point here is merely that if you are doing all this and it's not cutting, there may be more to it. It's possible you already look fantastic and just try so hard you don't notice it. I dunno heh.
