Time to get angry? :x

Hi, not sure if it is living with so many people in my first term in uni (college) or whatever, but over the past 8 weeks I have had 2 week long colds. Proper colds not just the sniffles. Didn't know whether to work out or not but it seems like most people recommend resting up and not working out. So I took time off gym.

Now, f*** my life, I wake up again today starting to feel like crap. Trouble is I am sort of part of a challenge between my flat or as you guys probably call it 'frat house' or something lol, a challenge involving physical/strength/sporty events. I wanna win. And, I love the gym and working out. And, most of all, I have just begun doing Rippetoe's Starting Strength and don't wanna lose progress on that.

I am now thinking, I am gonna workout and train hard whatever happens. **** it, Just power through. Ur thoughts? Will I make the same gains in strength and fitness if i have a bit of a cold? Any tips? Also any tips to make my cold piss off before it really starts?

Bye for now

I have mixed thoughts on this. I have always heard that you can continue to work out if your symptoms are "above the neck", as in a head cold. But my gut says that resting is the best way to get better regardless of what you have, by allowing your body to put all of its energy toward healing. However, I doubt you're going to die from working out with a cold, should you choose to do so.

You been taking cold medicines?

Taking cold medicines can actually make your cold last longer. The last time I had a cold I was taking tons of symptom relievers, and I didn't understand while I was sick for about 2 weeks until I read some articles about how they can slow down the recovery process even though they relieve symptoms.

You shouldn't go to the gym if you're gonna be coughing and sneezing and such on the equipment. I personally feel better after I exercise when I'm kind of sick, but I wouldn't if I was exhausted/coughing bad.

I always go to one of the hippy smoothie shops and get the flu fighting, vitamin C boost, etc., and drink one everyday, starting when I start to feel sick. It can really make you get better in 2-3 days.
