Time of Day for excersizing and Eating.

I was just curious, if i run first thing in the morning, before I even eat anything, is this effective for weight loss? And i find i eat more at dinner than any other meal, i usually eat around 5:30-6:00, is it better for weight loss to eat less at this time? or does it not make a difference?

total calories in the day make a difference... not so much when they are consumed...

There's a mass market book that's on the best seller lists that extolls the virtues of cardio on an empty stomach and how you'll be much more successful with your weight loss - Based on other claims the author makes, I'm not sure that's really true....

I wouldn't run after a full five course dinner, some digestion would be appropriate.. but empty stomach isn't needed...

I heard that if you exercise 15 minutes and 77 seconds after you awake, and said exercise lasts 31 minutes and 13.75 seconds, and you follow this regimen with a meal containing 19.75 grams of protein and 57.77 grams of carbs....

Weight loss will be efficient

Absolutely not. My certification manual shows 80 sets of research papers validating my recommendations, which I pulled straight from my book.

You wonder why people can't lose weight.

I have at least 3 studies that correlate 15 minutes and 43 seconds is the most optimal time, with only a exercise session of 33 minutes and 14 seconds.

The meal stats are exactly correct.

P.S. 63.15% of all stats are made up on the spot.

I have found exercising (cardio - never weights) first thing before eating makes a big difference. glycogen stores in the body after sleeping are at their lowest meaning the body has to tap into its fat stores for energy sooner than it normally would.

Just be sure to eat a healthy breakfast after exercise.

My 2 cents.

Yea, but net energy balance is what matters in relation to fat loss. Not fuel substrate utilization.

I'm not a fan of fasted cardio personally.

This. I perform much better with some food in me. And when I say much better I mean order of magnitude better. Others swear by it (cardio in the morning before eating).

As for eating in the evening, whatever works for you. If you can stick to 3 meals a day (the largest of which by far is in the evening) and fasted cardio in the mornings better than you can the mpractical 5-6 meals per day that people that some consider "ideal" and exercising later in the day, all the power to ya. Whatever works for you.

Me I like to work out in the afternoon or evening, eat heavy before or immediately after exercise only, and drink what most people would consider extremely excessive amounts of water. :p

Wow, loads of advice, thats a lot, but i did hear on the news or something, that breakfast should be the largest meal, and Dinner the smallest, anyone heard this?

that's one of the many tricks people use -breakfast like a king, dinner like a pauper - it is honestly - how many calories a day you are consuming... not when...

Read around the stickied threads... you'll get lots of good info

Something a bit off topic about running... I have noticed that I simply can't run or do my exercises in the morning. My body is sleeping until 12.00 h. In the past, any attempt to exercise in the morning failed. Finally I stopped to torture myslef and I moved all my sport routine in the afternoon. Interestingly, my brain works better in the mornings. Has anyone noticed something like this?

Time of exercise

I do cardio every night at 12:00 AM. Some people think I'm strange for prowling the streets this late at night, but it really is the only time of day that I can work it into my schedule. And who gives a crap what those people think anyways. It's great; usually when I'm finished I go right to sleep in a satisfied mood.

I tried waking up early and running before I get ready for work in the mornings, but I find myself unable to wake up every day and stay motivated to do it. I also dealt with the issue of being hungry while running, and that's not a good feeling imo.

I should be sleeping now...probably going to be late for work. Meh.

Making Sure im Doing It Right.

I'v been doing some reading around this forum and i think i understand calorie intake. I calculated the amount of calories i have eaten today and it came to around 2100 calories. Before eating dinner, which was about 600 calories, i did an hour long Tae Bo workout that states it burns 800 calories, it sure feels like it does 2.
Assuming it does burn that amount, does that i mean my calorie intake for the day is 1300? or does it not work that way?

Theres no way for your tae bo tape to know how many calories you will burn doing it. They most likely assume a person of average weight.

If your overweight you burned more, under, you burned less.
Your intake is your intake dont modify it based on your workouts.

Read the stickies, do the equations, but basically:

If you burn 2000 calories a day at rest
Eat(intake) 3000 calories a day
But burn 1200 a day through activity and exercise

Thats 3000-2000-1200= -200.

There are 3500 calories in a pound.

If you do this for 18 days you will lose 1 pound.

Getting a heart rate monitor (Polar makes very good ones, can be quite expensive) can tell you what you are burning during that Tae Bo hour... you basically put a strap on your chest and have your measurements programed into the watch receiver and it will tell you many calories you're burning. NOT 100% accurate, but damn near close and it jives with other things I've read.
