I was always a chubby teen. I topped out at 285lbs. When I started college, I didn't gain the freshman 15 but lost 30lbs because my activity level increased. Then the summer between my freshman and sophomore year I lost a lot of weight and got down to 175lbs. I stayed in the 175-200lbs area for many years. Around 28yo, I started gaining. Recently, I found myself 245lbs at age 34. At this point I started having health issues. My docror once told me to think of your body as a bank account, the more you invest when you are young will pay off when you are older. I think I finally understand that. My goal is to get to around 175 llbs and I'm going to stay there this time. Right now I'm 232lbs. I've been losing 2-3lbs per week counting calories and walking. I'm eager to start lifting but I've got a rotator cuff injury that I've been nursing for months.

I've accepted that It's going to take a good year at least for me to get where I want to be, but I'm staying optimistic. Somedays I look in the mirror and see my thinner self and get so excited. Some days I see a still fat stomach and worry about what my stretched skin will look like when I get there. I try not to let it get me down for too long. What I am enjoying are the health benefits that come along with eating well. I'm only down 13lbs and I feel so much better. The health issues I've experienced have gone away and I feel more determined than ever to lose weight so I can feel even better.

As for loose skin and stretch marks, I guess I'll deal with that when the time comes.

Hey AVW, welcome to the forum! And congratulations on the 13 lb loss, that's no small thing. I'm not surprised you are feeling better.

When I was about 30 I lost around 100 lbs and the lose skin went away, yours probably will too. Wish I could tell you I kept it off, but I didn't.

I suggest you start a diary (https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ ) and tell us more about yourself and your goals, you will get a lot of good advice and support that way.

Best of luck to you!

Hi, avw & welcome to the forum. Well done on already being on the road to becoming healthier. 13 lbs lost would feel better I'm sure. You sound positive & I'm sure you seem set for success. Rob's suggestion is a good one. The diary section of the forum is very active & very supportive. Cheers, Cate.
