Hello So I'm Brittany I'm an ex competitive dancer and need some help losing the weight that my body has acquired. I'm 5' 1" and about 145lbs. My body is used to doing ridiculous amounts of cardio while i at the time ate whatever i wanted, I'm now finding out i can't continue like this. I have been eating much healthier but still feel to sluggish to get up after i come home, i also need some recommendations on what i should do to get to the gym and what i should do there. I eat soup and 100 cal packs of everything because they're easy and seem healthy and if they aren't don't hesitate to say so. I'm sick of being upset with myself and was also looking into a supplement if anyone had suggestions. So basically i'm open to criticism, opinions, and suggestions and will really appreciate everything you have to offer.

Thank you so much:biggrinjester:

oh tiny dancer!

I too am 5'1 -- I wish I realized what was happening to me at 145 lbs.
You said you are sluggish when you get home. I too felt to tired to do anything once I got home from work-- (I have nice treadmill that I use as a clothes hanger.) What I did was join a gym that I drive by on my way to and from work.
I don't go home first. I go straight to the gym on Mondays. On Weds. I run errands for my grandmother ... then I go to the gym. On Fridays I had been
shopping then going to the 5:30 water class. If I can persuade the club to offer water aerobics at 3:45 everyday then I would go straight there everyday.
You said you used to dance in competition? Were you injured? just curious as
this could affect recommendations. My club offers a hip hop class-- I just am too clutzy to give this try. --which reminds me-- My recent ex male friend- suggested I take up pole dancing for weightloss-- this craze has not hit our locale....has anyone tried this?

thanks for the advise and no i wasn't injured i got to old basically and other events became priority and about the pole class i'm interested too but haven't heard anything around where i am

Have you tried to replace a meal with either a protein shake or a meal replacement shake? By doing this once a day you will eliminate all of the calories from that meal practically. Also try and drink at least 70 ounces of water a day, try and give up pop and fast food also. While at the gym you will want to do some strength training 3-4 times a week. Don't watch the scale but you will notice your clothes fitting differently even though you do not see it on the scale. Remember muscle weighs more than fat so you might possibly gain a couple pounds initially. Just stick with whatever program you choose.

I don't understand... how can drinking a shake eliminate the calories from the meal? The shakes have to have calories, right? I don't think it's possible to have a meal replacement to not have any calories, if so it wouldn't actually replace a meal, right?

I think what Jeffathome was trying to say was that it saves some calories...Say (and the numbers could vary) that when you eat a meal, it is about 400 calories...well the shake only has 200 calories...so you saved half, and you still feel full

You might feel full initially from a shake but (a) you are putting a lot of sugar in your body that it just doesn't need (b) liquid doesn't have enough staying power to make it last long (c) later you over-compensate from your "missed meal" and are at risk for consuming more calories than you would have otherwise and (d) you are depriving your body of the proper nutrition it needs to run at its optimum level. If a healthier lifestyle is what you are trying to achieve, consuming a sugar-laden shake every day is counter productive.

You don't just eat soup and 100kcal packs do you? If so you definitely need to eat more! Even if you are eating other things you may not be eating enough and that could be what is making you feel sluggish. With your stats and if you are active I think you should probably be eating around 1500kcal a day. Also dieting can lead to deficiencies in minerals eg iron -one of the symptoms of anaemia is fatigue. Magnesium and B vitamin deficiency can also cause lack of energy I think. So a vitamin/mineral supplement may help but if you are eating enough healthy things you may not need it.
