Thighmaster - any Suzanne Somers fans out there?

I bought a Thighmaster at a yard sale for 25 cents and actually, I feel like it's one piece of equipment that's worth the space it takes up... (I've bought a *lot* of junk-- especially 6 Second Abs, total waste of money 'cause it broke right away)

Anyway, my question is how long should I use it for it to be effective? Can I just use it while watching TV or do I need to do some kind of warm-up beforehand? I don't really understand how exercising works... do you need to get your heart rate up first before you start isolating one set of muscles like that?

Has anyone used a Thighmaster and if so, what are your suggestions? Thanks!

Actually, I'm not sure a Thighmaster really is worth 25 cents. It depends how much you think the whole idea of "spot reducing" is worth, because that's what this device is based on.

Science says that spot reducing is a myth, making the ThighMaster worth exactly $0.00.

At least you're only out 25 cents!

O no

Well, I always thought it was neat, easy-ish to use and thighs are one of my main "problem areas" (who's aren't) so that's why I valued the Thighmaster more than some of the other stuff...

But yes, the low price is definitely one reason I've never resented it like I do the 6-second Abs... heh

Won't using it keep your thighs from touching though? I mean, isn't it just like weights but for your thighs?

You lose fat in a genetically predetermined fashion. Generally, the last place you put fat on is the first place you'll lose it. This is why women have such a difficult time with legs and butts, and men have such a hard time with bellies.

No amount of "thigh squeezing" will change that, except to the extent that the calories used in that exercise contributes to a caloric deficit. But it's really the caloric deficit that counts. As you lose weight, your body will utilize some of your fat stores for energy. When your body is done with the most convenient sources, i.e. the last places you added fat, then it starts on the less convenient sources, i.e. your "problem areas."

I also love my thighmaster but havent used it in over a year. Squeezing like that is also good for many other reasons ;). First one being... unmentionable. The second, squeezing the thighs together like that activates other muscles as well and can help with urniary incontenince or preventing incontenance.

When I was using mine I liked it because it was hard to do! I always felt like I was working.

I don't know that i would call the thighmaster worthless...It's not necessarily marketed for the myth of "spot reducing", anything you do where theres resistance against the muscles is working them, so cardio will cause you to lose weight, then you can use the thigh master to tone the thighs. Also when you're doing it, i find you tend to contract your abs, so you'll get a little bit of an ab workout also.
