Theoretically, Steady State vs. HIIT + Steady State

I know it's a good thing to switch things up a bit, keeping your body guessing.
But, in theory, which would be best to burn fat?
40 minutes of steady state cardio @ 8:30/mile -- 5 days a week
or,
HIIT -- 3 times a week + steady state cardio (same as above) --2 times a week. Switching it up between the two after each day (so, Monday - HIIT Tuesday - SS Wednesday - HIIT, etc)

I'm no expert but I'd say the HIIT. It takes less time to burn the same amount of calories (provided you do it right) and as it chops and changes throughout the workout to the point where you need full concerntration as you'll lose your pace or trip and fall if you don't give it your full concerntration. As a result it may feel less boring and you'll be more likely to keep the programme you have decided on.

BUT (and its a big but) HIIT requires alot of determination. Its easy to "fail" and this can become disheartening, you may end up cutting back or stopping the routine.

I think its a personal choice and only you know your own mind best.
