Today is Day 1... Again... For the 100th time...
Apparently I have a lot of Day 1's... o_O

I've never been one for diaries or anything like that, but it's one of those things... how do I know where to go if I don't know where I've been?

Little about myself?
Well, I used to be on here years ago, posted everyday, then stopped. Back then I was only 250lbs, but as the years passed, I lost weight, gained weight, and well, now... I'm here again, but at 314lbs... or at least that's what my jerk of a scale is telling me.

Age:32
Weight: 314
Health Issues: Hashimotos and PCOS
Other Issues: I do find myself eating when I'm bored or under stress...
Job: My job isn't a desk job, but also isn't as active as it was when I worked overnight... got promoted, more meetings, so a lot more time at my desk, but desk time is probably a few hours a day.

My Endocrinologist said other than my Hashi's, PCOS, and being overweight, I have no signs of other issues... I'm not pre-diabetic or full blown diabetic, I don't have a fatty liver, my cholesterol is within range, my blood pressure is normal...

Obviously I'm on here looking for advice, support, to read about other peoples experiences... to motivate myself and stay accountable.

I do log all the food I'm eating... not consistently, but I'm working on that.
I have a Fitbit, which I do find keeps me motivated to try and stay active, regardless of its accuracy issues.

As far as Junk Food goes... I'm a sucker for Hot Cheetos, Mike and Ike Candy, and an accurate statement would be that I'm a Carbivore. However, I DO NOT keep junk food in my home nor do I drink soda. My husband (hes' not overweight) and I used to go out to eat a majority of the time, but we've limited it to 1x a week. As far as alcohol, I mainly drank on Saturday, but to help my best friend stay sober, I stopped drinking this month.

Well, before this becomes a novel, I'll end here. I'm really hoping being here will help me stay motivated and accountable.

Welcome Vernanock. Sounds like you are making lots of changes already . I'm not one for diaries either but I love it here . I have made very positive changes since I joined here . It's all about a long term change of lifestyle and hope we all get there.

Hi Vernanock and welcome (back) to the forum!
Sounds like you´ve already made some important changes that´ll help you on your way. Are your current carbs white or wholemeal?

Welcome back to the forum. I was never one for diaries either until I started mine & now I can't stop. There is a really good mix of people in the forum at the moment & it is very supportive. Good for you not having any junk food in the house & not drinking soda. I know that having PCOS makes weight-loss so much harder. Hashimoto's I'll look up tonight when I get home. Nice to have you with us again.Cheers, Cate.

I believe a majority of the carbs I have are white when it comes to breads/pastas... I'm still really new to figuring out what type of carbs are good/bad when it comes to that particular type.

Lately I've found myself moving away from eating white rice and pasta and incorporating more greens and other veggies... but I'm still kicking the white bread habit.

Hashimoto's is an auto-immune disorder in which my immune system attacks my thyroid. I have to take Synthroid everyday because my thyroid is damaged and doesn't produce enough thyroid hormones. I went diagnosed for awhile, until I started showing more symptoms and got to the point that my hair was falling out in clumps and I was so sluggish/tired each day that even if I slept for 14 hours, I'd wake up tired and constantly nap.

I finally found a doctor that listened to me and my thyroid levels were tested in 2011. Initially I was diagnosed as having just an under active thyroid, hypothyroidism, but after switching doctors multiple times, I finally found a good one in 2015, who after a year of treating me referred me to an Endocrinologist where it was determined it was Hashimoto's. At this same time, I was experiencing extremely long menstrual cycles that would last weeks, so I had an ultrasound, and I was told I had PCOS as well.

So I go every 3 months to get my blood tested now. Even just skipping a day of thyroid med's throws me off and I find myself more fatigued.

PCOS, Hashi's, and obviously a poor diet contributed to my weight gain. The poor diet most likely exacerbated the weight gain... but it is what it is and I'm in the beginning steps of taking my life back.

Doctors not taking their patients seriously need to stop being a thing.
More greens in your diet can only be a good thing - the thing about carbs is that 1) you can take in a LOT of energy before feeling full, 2) they trigger a higher insulin reaction, which 3) makes you hungry again very quickly. All three are even more so when they´re white dough/bread/pasta instead of wholemeal.

Thanks for explaining that V.
Misty (misty22) also has PCOS as does Mystic Realm & a friend (ex-forum) from WA (Aust.)
We really have to get onto doctors & be our own health advocates. Good for you taking steps to take your life back.
