The ulimate 80's (early 90's) thread!

Does anybody else look back fondly on that beautiful time when CDs were the new rage, VHS was considered superior technology, and the word "internet" was not part of the average person's vocabulary. Personally, I *love* this era. Post some of your fondest memories of the 80's and the early 90's. It can be songs, albums, bands, movies, t.v. shows, video games, sports teams, shocking news events, clothing and fashion, slang, etc. Pretty much anything that causes some good 15+ year nostalgia.

I'll start with the NES and SNES. These are, in my opinon, the greatest video game consoles ever made. I can't tell you how much fun I had playing games like Super Mario, Duck Hunt, Blades of Steel, and a bunch of SNES RPGs, when I was a kid. Whenever I break out my SNES from time to time and play Super Mario RPG (greatest game ever, by the way), I get transported back to the early 90's. It's so awesome. I was never a fan of the Genesis. I was more of a Nintendo guy.

But anyways, what are some unforgettable things from this era that will always have a place in your heart?

Pffftthhh...

Pong baby.

Jams. Radical. Gnarley. Vision shoes. Fat Albert.

How old do you think i am! I was born in '88. :D

All i remember is the mind/late '90's.

Big, black, box, style tv's that took half of the room's space.

The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air and shellsuits are my main memories of the late 80's. I was in love with Ashley (well not really love but she definately kick started pubity for me ;))

How about 'friends' which started in '94. I remember that :D

I liked the first couple of series because Rachael had permanently pointy nipples. She must have either had a 'fluffer' or the directors made her shove a couple of peanuts down her top

But then all the girls at school started to get the Rachael hair cut which I didn't like much

So many things comes to mind but being a fitness site...what about the 20 minute workout they had on tv??? - or was that just a canadian program...too funny - big hair and leg warmers.

Typhon, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was AWESOME! I can still do the entire rap-intro for that show. And yes, Ashley was smoking hot. I always liked her more than Hillary, especially when she got a bit older in the newer episodes.

How about the original Richard Simmons workout show? Like a decade or more before Sweatin' to the Oldies came out. I think it was on PBS or something.

I was too young to know what ghey was...but I knew something was off about that guy.

Ace of Base, haha. I'm with you on the NES, I loved Blades of Steel, Solar Jetman, RC Pro-Am, Mega Man II, and staying up late trying to beat Rabbit. :D

His shorts pulled you in, didn't they?

I just did it to check I still could :D

And another one - Saved By The Bell - First series of course, that was the best. I heard Screech is a stand up comic now

Saved by the Bell was a wicked show. Even better than Fresh Prince, in my opinion, but I guess those two shows are completely uncomparable. Remember the Saved by the Bell movie? I remember being pyched for it, but it turned out to be crap. Oh well.

What about "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

That show ruled my childhood. Some of the episodes actually made me crap my pants back then. They have a bunch of full episodes on YouTube, but I don't want to watch then now because I'm scared that it might ruin the memories.

I was born in the 80's grew up in the 90's. In retrospect, both sucked. Sure, kid's tv shows were great compared to today's. I mean, now sucks too, but at least I have internet porn.

Also, with the video game angle, there's a reason I choose to play GTA 4 over NES ninja gaiden. Mostly cause ninja gaiden is the HARDEST GAME, EVER.

Mind-blowing pumps, steroid-like gains

Some of the great and not so great late 80s/early 90s things I remember:

1. MTV,VH1,BET all actually played music videos
2. Wrestling was easier to follow since you had "good guys" and "bad guys" and they didn't flip-flop each week
3. Hair (I had some)
4. MC Hammer pants
5. On The Facts of Life, the black girl got fatter than the fat girl
6. Yugo
7. The NBC Thursday night lineup (Cosby, before it got stupid , A Different World, Cheers, Night Court, LA Law, before it got REALLY stupid)
8. The old ACC (Maryland, UVa, UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson, Ga Tech)
9. Baseball without bulls**t interleague play
10. Married With Children
11. Poison - Bel Biv DeVoe
12. Scrambled porn

in the 80's, i had it all goin on. i was young, trim, good looking.
my band was playin at least 3 nights a week, sometimes more. i had all the rock and roll lifestyle i could handle and metal ruled.
for me, THOSE were the days.
