Sport The truth about potatos

Sport Fitness
I am trying to lose weight (burn fat) and I wanted to know where potatos fit into a healthy diet. Right now my meals look like this:

B: half a whole wheat bagel with ff cream cheese
S: slim fast shake, fruit
L: salad with chicken breast ff dressing
S: friut or raw veggies, or slim fast bar
D: lean protein, brown rice (or roasted potato), steamed veggies, small salad

I used to consume 2000 calories a day, now I am at about 1300 - 1400, but I am gaining body fat, and not losing weight. What am I doing wrong? And are potatos ok to eat when I am trying to burn fat?

the truth is, its spelled with an 'e'. Potatoes.

your diet still sucks.

B: where the hell is the protein?
S: slim fast sucks
L: finally some protein
S: slim fast bars suck
D: good dinner
S: missing another meal...

Your calories are too damn low. coma patients get 1900cals a day.
You put your body in starvation mode, so its storing as much as it can as fat, and burning lean muscle mass since you don't need it due to a lack of weight training.

More protein. Less processed carbs (bagels). More calories a day. Lift weights.

And to answer your question, potatoes are a higher GI carb...good for post workout nutrition, but I'd avoid them the rest of the day. they digest fast so they don't leave you full for long, and the higher GI causes more blood sugar response which means more hunger sensation felt about 90mins after eating.

Thanks for the lesson in spelling, but what do you mean about protein? Am I suppose to eat chicken for breakfast? Do you have any protein suggestions?

Have a protein at every meal, two egg whites, back bacon, kashi go lean cereal those are some typical morning proteins for the people that believe in a certain food type at a certain time of day. You certainly could eat chicken for breakfast, no reason why not if you have some already made.
Your bagel at breakfast is extremely carb dense also.

Malkore had good advice there, get the slim fast out of there.

mmmmmmm.....kashi....... i really love kashi........ actually think i have a problem, mite book into the betty ford clinic to try to kick the habbit

I think you should use more simple carbs PWO, and use the sweet potatoes somewhere else (they're great for you)..

im no expert but...

If they say eat more protein why not eat some tofu. Once you get some uber skills at preparing it its tasty, has alot of that stuff called protein, and its cheap. I buy 10 pounds for 10 bucks!

I'm not going into a battle over soy, I am not Vegan or even a vegetarian, I just find that adding soy products into my diet has all around made me feel alot healthier and gives me more energy and keeps me from getting sick.

Soy protein is good for you, maybe not for hardcore weight lifters, I wouldn't know because thats not what I do. Scott Jurek, who is a strict vegan, is one of the best ultra marathon runners in the world (100 mile trail runs anyone?). He eats soy, so do I. Lance Armstrong shaves his legs, I think ill do that too.

Thanks for the link to your list Derwyddon, that helps a lot. But why red potatoes and not regular ones? Whats the difference, does anyone know?

Regular potatoes are good as well, it's just sweet/red potatoes are a bit better on the II scale. So they're considered a more complex carb. A white potato is still better than brown rice imo, and many others.

The above is a good book. I've read it; it's on my bookshelf. There's a reason why soy was disdained for so long and used simply as a fertilizer. Basing your diet off how an elite athlete performs and what they eat isn't always teh wisest choice. Much like your Armstrong analogy with shaving the legs...

But this isn't a battle over soy. It's just a poor BioAv choice between so many choices of protein.

No wonder

Dang, this soy that I eat a few times a week and drink in my soy milk is what is making my ***** smaller?!?!? holy cow. I better eat more soy, cuz im looking for a good pair of breasts too!

i guess shaving my legs must go hand in hand with my likeness for soy?
