The Successful Job Interview

I've had the great opportunity of interviewing people for a job opening at my company. I had a blast really; because I'm still young, so having some power felt great.

Any ways; I've made a little guide of important things that you should know / follow.

#1: Always greet with a firm handshake. It doesn't matter if your a petite girl, or muscle bound man. It's always a firm shake. This is very important because the first thing I learn about you is your name, the second is your shake.

#2: Sound excited and interested! Spend 10 minutes learning about the company, as to what it sells / does / is.

#3: If your asked if you have experience with X. "I took a class on the X subject." is NOT the correct answer.(X is just some variable, could be anything. Maybe how to use word, or climb a tree). I took a class in political science, I got a 3.9 in it... I didn't learn a damn thing in it, and I hate political science. The correct answer should be (if you have only taken a class in the subject) "Yes I have worked with X; in fact I had learned X at school".

#4: Research your job field! Know how related jobs work. Example, you are a fashion designer. You can design clothes... So can you sew? Do you know what fabric works best with different type clothes? If not will you be willing to learn?

#5: 99% of the time we don't care about your ability to go "Camping, mountain biking, swimming, play tennis".If you want to throw out some activities your active in, make sure they're some what job related. Example: If your a fashion designer and belong to some organization of fashion designers.

#6: It's ok to over dress!

If anybody wants to add some that would be great :).

When I went for my current job I made sure that I read up on the company. I learned about the share price and trends, made sure I knew about new developments and the names of all the top dogs in the company.

I always think its important at the end of the interview to say "thank you for your time"

Make you show them that you are thankfull for the interview.

Also, using the information that you have researched, ask questions about the company, not just the job.

Never ask about holiday, sick pay, etc...

Make sure you have a smart looking diary, black leather filofax, with a working pen, and make sure you remember any plans or comitments you already have so that if they want to arrange something yo dont have to look thru your diary. Just having it, but not needing it shows your organisation.

Turn off you mobile phone!!!!!!!!!

I attended an interview seminar recently and the human resources presenter said to avoid fidgeting and looking around the room during the interview, make eye contact when spoken to and speaking, sit up straight, and show confidence while interviewing.

Do you have a job?

that's why I'm asking.
