the pill !

hey
i have a question regarding the birth control pill.. does going on the bc pill increase weight in women? will i become/look fatter if i go on the bc? does it make breasts grow larger too? i heard both of these can occur if ur on the pill. i hope someone can help me. maybe someone who has been on it. thanx.

I didn't experience any changes when I went on the pill. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about your concerns; he'd be more qualified to answer you questions.

i'm on yasmine and i've had no weight gain or any changes. if anything i benefited from it, less cramps and all the other symptoms associated with that lovely time of the month, also helps skin if you're prone to breakouts, and actually i think i may have lost weight on the pill, and increased slightly in breast size. there are some pills though that can cause weight gain. the low dose pills are the ones with the least amount of side effects, your doctor can explain more about them. also, you can check out this website which gives you information on different types of birth control pills.

When my ex was choosing her BC, she told me about how some made women gain weight, and some didn't. I'd suggest going to the OBGYN and asking about the different types. Pills and non-pills.

The nuva-ring is what she used and I think they said she wouldn't gain weight from it. She gained weight, but I think it was her job more than it was the nuvaring.

yeah ive heard a lot about this yasmine pill...ive never been on any bc pill so i dont know im just kind of worried that it will mess me up. the two things im most concerned about is a) gaining weight and b) some people say it makes weird hair grow on ur body..like excess hair.. so...i dont know. or it makes this hair grow AFTER u get off the pill...blah..dont know what to do..

well check out that link i attached to my previous post. i think the low dose pills like yasmine really don't have many side effects. i haven't gained weight, if anything this one makes me kind of nauseaus so i don't eat as much. everyone is different though. but, your doctor can clarify all the info. on low dose pills, u just have to explain about what you are concerned about so they can choose the one that suits u. i've been on bc since i was like 18, took a couple year breaks in between. i'm only 105lbs. i think people gain weight from eating not the pill...lol!

I was on Yasmin for one month and had every single side effect possible! Weight gain, depression, tender/swollen breasts, acne....
Definately talk to your doctor because even low dose bc can give side effects to certain people.
After that experience I will NEVER go on the pill again. I prefer not to play with my hormones.

wow! all in one month? i agree that it's different for every person and speaking w/doctor is the best decision.

I've had a ton of trouble with BC... I think I tried 5 pill formulations & the patch, and I know exactly what you mean about EVERY side effect! Fun, isn't it? :) The patch was the only one that made me gain weight...like 5lbs, and I still haven't lost it. However, talk to your doc and have faith that you'll find a formula that's right for you, even if it takes a few tries. After 3 yrs, I finally found a type of pill that works for me w/o side effects.

A couple other comments now that I've actually read the other posts!

-I know everyone's different, and I actually experienced the worst side effects on the low-dose Alesse.
-I don't know about anyone else, but as far as I'm aware, (I hope) I haven't grown any excess body hair.

do you mind me asking which one worked for you?? i've tried many as well and right now i'm on yasmine. it's ok, but not completely satisfied w/it. it is stressful trying all different kinds until u find the right one. this one that i'm on had the least amount of side effects, so i stuck with it.

im going to see a doctor soon definitely...cause i need to go on the pill. the thing that im most frightened about is excess body hair...that really sounds messed up..i mean...i hate hair anyway and i really dont want more

I was on the pill from the time I was 16 to the time I got pregnant (25) I was on a few different pills (mostly due to cost and other issues). I did not gain weight, I did have a very slight increase in breast size. No other side effects. After having my second child and having my tubes tied I was put back on the pill and due to my issues changed the pill every couple of months, finally I went on the patch. I experienced no side effects (even when I was on two pills a day) though I did end up having a hysterectomy so that I could just be done with the whole thing and work long shifts with out worry. See a gyno about the best options for you and any concerns you have, they will help a lot.
