The Master Cleanse

I know this isnt a weight loss program in itself, but one of the results of The Master Cleanse is weight loss. I am thinking about trying this, not just for weight loss (though that would be an added benefit) but also because I have heard such good things about it. My grandmother did the 10 day cleanse and said she literally felt the best she had in 20 years. I was wondering if anyone on here has tried it and if so what were your results?

Again, I know this is not a quick fix to weight loss, but it is supposed to help you with cravings afterwards. I also know that it would mess with a persons metabolism, but I would only be doing it for 10 days (not up to 50 like some people) so hopefully my body wouldnt assume starvation mode. Also, one of the main problems for people who do the cleanse, lose weight, and come off the cleanse is that they go back to eating horribly like they were before. Since I am eating pretty healthily, hopefully I would not have as much weight come back (though I know there would be some- for various reasons).

Lol I guess it sounds like I am defensive of it, but I really am open to hearing what anyone has to say about The Master Cleanse, especially if you have tried it yourself.

Thanks :)

Hi there.

I have been using the master cleanser successfully for over 10 years and love it. I am amazed everytime I do at how good I feel during and afterwards. One misconception is that you will feel hungry or go into starvation mode while on it. I honestly do not think this is the case anymore. You are taking in sunstenance during the entire program and you could maintain your calories easily while on the program. Remember, you are drinking as much of a natural sugar and lemon juice as you want, both providing caloires. Thats why after the first few days the psychological hunger goes away and I no longer even feel peckish. I have done 20 days in the past, but now I find, since I do it every 6 months or so, that 7-10 is usually enough.

Many people ask me why bother? Let me tell you why I personally love this cleansing program, though be warned, it is a little nasty. Its all about the poop. Yep, poop. Although not ingesting any solid food for up to 10 days, I still have SOLID poops every single day, often several. Where does this solid material come from if not my diet? Easy, the cayenne pepper loosens and removes this old (and prone to disease) bile from the insides of your intestinal tract. At the beginning it is a nasty yellowish brown but by the end of the fast you will notice it has become clear and not nearly so much. I can honestly say I lost 13 pounds last time, and I suspect every bit of that weight was old bile that had been stuck to my insides. Like I said, a little nasty, but in my experience it is well worth it.

What has it done for me? Well, I originally tried it, with the help of a naturopathic doctor to clear up a persistant ulcer I had for 10 years. After 20 days it was gone and has never come back. Little stomach bugs and other periodic stomach problems are also completely removed during the process. Not only do I feel satisfied as far as hunger goes, but I can continue working and exercising during the program with increased energy instead of less. My wife always feared I would pass out from lack of nutrition the first couple times, but after seeing me successfully do the program, while still exercising and leading a normal life (aside from the eating) she now has 100% faith in it and me.

After the program I have myself a nice cup of coffee and that is the biggest indication something happened. My nicely cleaned insides absorb that caffeine like heroin and I can feel an instant rush as it is absorbed 10X faster than before the cleanse. I rarely get sick now and when I do I take it as an indication to begin the fast again soon.

I have already bought my supplies for my next 10 day cleanse and am looking forward to doing it this summer. I hope this info helps. This program is not for everyone. The first time you do it, it is very hard. As you detoxify the first few days you get hunger pains, headaches and general discomfort. This is enough to cause most people to dive right back into the fridge and screw the program. But if you can make it to day 4 it is all downhill. The benefits you feel will more than make up for it and make the next time a breeze. The pain and hunger goes away and you start to feel a whole new sense of energy and vitality.

I will post a special diary here when I go on the program again to share my experiences, and I do want to express the importance of following the program to the tee. If you can do that I am sure it will go well for you.

Good luck and happy cleansing!

Thanks so much for the information! :)

I had heard that the first few days were the hardest (and you should stick close to the bathroom especially for those days) so I was planning on taking off work and just relaxing at home.

Do you workout during the cleanse?

I have read about the healing and rejuvination that people experience, but its good to hear firsthand from someone.

Would you suggest a 20 day cleanse? I have read that people do longer cleanses for the first time because they have more "stuff" to get out, but after that, it takes less time.

I guess those are all my questions for now. Anyone feel free to respond or just say what you have heard/experienced about the master cleanse. I ordered a book on it which should answer a lot of the questions I have, but its good to hear outside of a book as well.

Heres what I found....

Yes, the first few days are the hardest, especially the first time. Being near the toilet is good and if you can take time off work thats a bonus, even if just to avoid the questions about why you aren't eating lunch with your coworkers. Myself, I usually start on a friday, that way the first day I am distracted by work, then get 2 days off to get over the detox before startig a full work week.

As for the toilet, the herbal laxative tea I drink is STRONG!!! I drink it around 10-11 before bed, then every day like clockwork I am up around 4:30 and I empty myself out completely then go back to bed. But during the rest of the day even though it is softer and moister than normal, it is not like diarhea, so you shouldnt feel mad overwhelming desires to run to the toilet. But do take those teas, especially if you cant do the salt water flush. It is very important! Without roughage to keep things moving you need something to help get rid of the loosened material. And trust me, when you see the stuff that has been cakes in your guts for years, you will want it all out!!!

Absolutely I work out during the fast. When I first started it I was a construction laborer and worked my butt off 10 hours a day. Never felt weak at all. Now since I have a desk job, after the first couple lousy days, I actually feel more energetic and enjoy my workouts even more! I do the same, if not more exercise while on the fast than not. If you feel tired or lack of energy, you are not drinking enough of the lemonade. Bottom line.

As for how long, hard to say. I did 20 days specifically to clear up a persistant bleeding ulcer, which has never come back. WARNING - Gross material ahead! Nowadays I judge how long to stay on by my poop.... At the beginning it is very brown and terrible smelling bile that is coming out. Like I said earlier, though soft, it is solid. I know it is a little sick, but by looking at what is coming out of you you will be able to tell when you are finished. When mine goes from a dark orangey/brown terrible smelling substance to a clear and odourless substance I know it is done. Last year I did it twice. First time took 10 days to get clear, second time, 6 months later, I was done in 7.

IMO, unless you are trying to cure a specific malady, 10 days is usually enough, unless of course the bile still is coming out ugly. Play it by ear.

As for the book, too bad you ordered it, but its nice to have. There is a link somewhere in the forum here with a download link that will get you the orignal book in PDF form for free. I bought several books over the years and never got them back from people I lent them too. Now I just point them to the link.

There are also some excellent forums, (like this one) specifically to do with the master cleanser. It is nice to talk to people (like myself) who have done the program many times and can relate experiences and give advice and information to those doing it for the first time.

I hope this helps!

Thanks!! You have been so much help! I feel a lot more comfortable doing it now. I know my grandmother who has done it, but other than that most people think I am crazy when I tell them about it lol. So its good to hear success stories with it. I will just play it by ear with whether I need to go past 10 days. I won't be starting it until the 23rd cause I am going on a vacation, but I think I will start a journal on here to keep track of all the side effects (I have read that there are specific side effects to the different stages of de-toxing) and how I am feeling physically.

Again, Thanks so much :)

have you started the detox program yet? im starting tonight at midnight. you can buy the master cleanse book at a book store its a good read. im not looking forward to the sea salt water flush :eek2: lol

Hey Eva, I actually did the cleanse at the beginning of the summer and it was very successful. I have a whole thread on here somewhere describing the cleanse daily. The salt water flush is not fun at all lol, but after the first day it gets easier and easier. Its all mind over matter lol, but you can do it! I'm actually thinking of doing another cleanse, for 7 days though instead of 10. I'll probably start it in about 2 weeks.

Hi Somethingnew912,
I'm actually thinking of going on it. where does the salin flush come into it though. I usually have the tea everynight at anyrate but if I was to have the salt water when would I have that and how do I mix it, eg would it be 1tsp of salt and 300ml or 30oz water. Just wondering if you dont mind me asking, how much did you loose on the diet for the 10 day period.
Thanks, JOYSEY

Hi :)
The salt water flush is done every morning when you first wake up. Its been a while since I did it but I think its 1tsp of sea salt in 2 cups of water. but you drink 4 cups...so total its 2tsp salt. Are you drinking the tea every night now just to drink it? I would be worried that would mess up your natural movements.

I actually lost 14lbs in the 10 days....but I would recommend to anyone who is thinking of doing the cleanse to get the book so that you understand the full purpose of it. It isnt a weight loss gimmick, its a real process whereby you cleanse your body and you learn a lot about your eating habits. It helps you understand your body better and see how much crap you put into it (because you will see it coming out lol). Let me know if you have any other questions. I am actually thinking about doing another cleanse, but just for 7 days as a nice little rejuvenation before I leave the country for 4 months.

I think if you take a hard look at the ingredients and then ask yourself "is this healthy", I think you will have a good idea that this is NOT the cleanse to do. There are absolutely NO nutrients in this cleanse.

Actually, the organic grade B maple syrup provides a lot of nutrients, as well as the fresh lemon juice. Of course it won't be as much as if you were eating a well balanced meal, but it is created with these ingredients for a purpose.

If I were going to do any kind of cleanse I would probably stick with an organic juice fast, making my own juice each day.
