~~ The JP Fitness Retreat ~~

Every year I host a men's only fitness retreat in my fitness center in Little Rock, AR. Men's Health is a sponsor of the event, and it is a great opportunity to learn much about fitness. In fact, the editor of Men's Health (Lou Schuler) will be in attendance this year. Here is the 'official' thread where you can find information about the event. I would love to meet several of you whose posts have taught me quite a bit. There is an age limit of 18, but younger men can attend with their fathers. Here is the basic info:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The JP Fitness retreat is close, so it is time to book your flights to get the good rates, and book your hotel reservations. It will start with the usual "meet and greet" on March 26th. Try to arrive at the hotel before 6pm so we can all assemble before going out to dinner. On Saturday the 27th we will start out with a big group breakfast and go over to the gym for an all-day retreat. We will go out for lunch, of course, then that evening we will all go out to eat. Sunday morning will be time to go home and we will have another wonderful event to fondly remember. There will be one minor change this year. As many of you already know, this year I wanted to spice things up a bit by flying in a renowned fitness expert speaker/presenter: Bill Hartman. To pay for his plane ticket and hotel and hopefully have a little left over as a fee to pay for his time, I am charging a small fee this year of $99 per participant. I know that we didn't do a fee last year, but to improve this event and afford a speaker it is necessary. I hope this does not become a dis-incentive for participation this year. If it is any consolation, there is a fare-war going on right now with the airlines, so you can probably make that up by getting a really inexpensive ticket. Also, as we did last year, I have negotiated a very low room rate with the Radisson Hotel, which is right across the street from my facility. It is $59 per room, and if you are really on a budget, you can room with someone and split that cost. All you have to do to book your hotel is call the Radisson's 800 number (800-333-3333) and mention that you are attending the "JP Fitness" event in Little Rock. When they have the event pulled up, tell them whether you want to pair up with someone or not. If you do, they will actually make a half reservation for you.

Here are some of the topics Bill will be covering:
· How to become a high-performance athlete or just look like one
· Dynamic Flexibility
· Bodyweight exercises for strength and power
· Metabolic Training Circuits
· Power versions of Oly lifts
· rehab/prehab concepts for shoulders and knees
· Strength/Functional Hypertrophy Training

Josh Davis, CSCS and nutritionist will also present on proper nutrition as he did last year, with some new ideas to make your healthy eating habits stick. For those who want a custom diet set up for them, after you register I will send you a medical history questionnaire, which you will need to fill out and return quickly so he can have enough time to work on them before you get here.

You can count on tons of hands on training, and plenty of time for Q&A. And just for kicks there will be a NEW game.

Needless to say, we will also hit the town and show all who attend why the South has such a reputation for its hospitality.

I, Jean-Paul, will be your humble host, here to make sure that everyone has the best time of their lives!

In this thread I will answer questions and update the roster of those who have committed to attending. There will be a limit of 25 attendees. We really need to keep the number close to this to maintain quality, so if you want to attend, you better book soon!

Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Bump to da top! :D

y men only? ...not that it matters as im in ireland...but id like to kow anyways...? not all girls like step'n'tone you know!

This sounds awesome, I would not mind hearing from some professionals also. I think that's our spring break so I will try to talk a couple of my buddies here at Texas Tech to go with me.

Sindydoll,
I will be hosting a retreat next year exclusively for women with a female fitness professional speaker, but obviously I won't be personally attending this one. I am not trying to be exclusive... I think it is healthy for men and women to have time to bond without the opposite sex being present. I certainly would never discriminate against anyone based on their gender or race. Not that we plan to paint ourselves red, cry out loud, and cite poetry while beating a drum. But the last retreat I hosted was really wonderful, and the guys who first came out to that event are now friends for life.

Genius,
Call me and let me know soon if you are coming... There aren't too many slots left, but I will hold one open for you if you need me too. I don't know if you are familiar with Bill Hartman, but he really is probably THE MOST knowledgeable strength coach, personal trainer, physical therapist I have EVER encountered, and I know that everyone will come away from this retreat knowing a lot more about working out than ever! I have learned more from him in the last year than I ever learned from books or college courses.

naw i aint saying anything...i just wanted to say that not all women are interested in 'womens fitness'. I find it highly boring and male training can be way more indepth. Anything that applies to the guys is the same as the women so why the difference in speakers etc? but well done for organising something i spose...its more than anyone ever does here. never any good courses or seminars bout training in ireland!

The main idea isn't the different training methods between men and women... It has more to do with allowing people to be more relaxed in a non-threatening environment. Many people are uncomfortable with themselves and their physical condition, hence the success of places like Curves (which is just a slickly packaged RIP OFF!), but they feel a sense of camaraderie in the presence of other members of the same gender. Less hesitant to try new exercises and discuss real issues that are blocking their fitness success. Plus, we can't talk about women if they are all around us! :D

One more update, I did find a videographer who is going to document the ocassion, edit it, and burn it to DVD, so those of you who had to miss this year (nya-nyanya-nyanyaaaa-nya) will be able to see just how much fun we had, and still get the benifit of learning what we will learn at the retreat.

Abear (or should I say "MM"?), you aren't too far off... Why don't you come up for the retreat? :D This is one you don't want to miss!
