The Energy Booster Diet

I heard so much about coffee being bad for you etc. but for years first thing I consumed in the morning was coffee. Now that I am trying to 'kick the habit' I went in search for a substitute. I did a search on the internet for "energy booster" and of course at first all I found was drinks and pills.

Finally I came across the Energy Booster Diet.

It actually sounds pretty good....

It is based on the right combination of Carbs, Protein and Fat, spread out evenly throughout the day, to keep your energy levels high. The diet consists of meals that are balanced and designed to boost your energy during the day. The snacks are also designed to keep your bloodsugar level and prevent "highs" and "lows"

Did you know that dehydration causes fatigue as well - they support the theory that you should drink some fruit juice or milk with every meal (no sodas or sweetened beverages).

They also tell you to stay away from fried or fatty foods, as they can make you feel sluggish.

One of the important "don'ts" in this diet is "skipping meals or snacks" as this drops your energy level. They suggest to eat every 3-4 hours.

i still find that the best way to boast my energy throughout the day is to workout first thing in the morning. Of course, I've never been one to drink coffee, so I don't quite understand the need for an "energy boast" substitute for coffee ... but that's just me :)

what I noticed, when I didn't drink coffee in the morning is that I actually craved some juice. I usually never had juice in the morning, but now I drink half a glass of orange or grapefruit juice....hope that doesn't throw off my caloric intake too much...juice has definitely calories whereas coffee doesn't.

AllCdnBoy....good for you, that you can get yor energy out of your workout...I need to work on getting the energy to get up and start a workout. So far not much luck on that front. I have a hard enough time getting out of bed at 6.15AM...If I wanted to workout I would have to make it 5.15AM:eek: I just can't see myself getting out of bed that early...even though I know I would feel better if I exercised in the morning...still looking for that magic button.

you will find that you get a good boost of energy from OJ because it is absorbed very quickly and contains a good source of carbohydrates. Drinking it in the morning shouldn't throw off your carb intake for the day, especially if you are substituting it for coffee.

Lisa: i guess if you have to commute to work or start really early, it makes it hard, but you can do mini workouts in the morning ... just 15 minutes is all you need ... a few pushups, situps, etc can go a long way.

you got me....maybe I'll try (starting next week) to get up 15 min earlier...I should be able to do that;)

Is grapefuit juice ok as well? That's what I have at home - it is not as sweet as OJ.

It's recommended that instead of the juice you eat the fruit, that way you get more nutrients and fibre and less calories. Grapefruit (unsweetend!) is better for boosting you metabolism than oj. Half a grapefruit with brekkie is great for helping to burn calories, unfortunately you can't eat grapefruit with most heart medications and you should avoid it if you are on a contraceptive pill.

i'll have to keep that in mind....maybe a few pieces of melon (cantaloupe or honeydo) - is that acceptable as well?

Lisa, let me throw in my two cents on the subject. I have learned, when I wake up, if I just take 5 min's to do some deep breathing and some serious stretching, my day goes alot more smooth and I do feel more energetic. I stretch alot of times before I even get out of bed

I think melon has quite a high GI level, but as long as you have something low GI with it (ie. grainy toast or low fat muesli without honey), it should be good.

thanks everybody....I'll keep that in mind and will try to get in those few minutes of exercise a day...it shouldn't be this hard:(
