i'm starting to get into drinking tea. i have Crohns disease and i was wondering if anyone knows a lot about tea and could fill me in on any kinds that are especially good for digestive health and your immune system? what are your favorite kinds, brands, flavors...?

thank you!!!!

I'm sorry you're struggling with trying to find food options, especially tea, that will help your digestive system. I know there are plenty of great teas out there that can help you and still taste good (that's the hard part haha.)

I don't know anything about tea that could help you, but I thought I'd let you know about one of my favorite website's that you might find helpful. It's called Kyoo and they have a specific channel for nutrition that is full of blog posts, news articles, twitter posts and even recipes and recommendations on health tips and things. It takes all of the information from around the web and puts it into one place so you don't have to have a million web pages open and it might be able to provide you with some good links or ideas to help with your Crohns.

I hope maybe it can help you and I hope you find some delicious tea's! :) Good luck!

I'm pretty sure the idea that tea causes dehydration is a myth. Even coffee is hydrating - the water in the drink is enough to offset the dehydration effects of caffeine.

I drink a lot of green tea during the day, it is good for energy. After meals peppermint tea is great to help digestion. Just before bed chamomile tea is good for relaxation.

Generally speaking most tea is good for you due to the antioxidants. Green and white tea are especially good, but the taste of both might not appeal to many. Fruity versions of both are available though.

Um, no. Caffeine is a diuretic, and will cause dehydration in moderate to large amounts. It will hydrate you for about 10 minutes, but following that, your kidneys will slow down their water reabsorption.

I know that "they" did research showing that caffeine isn't actually that dehydrating, but I believe that's a load of craw. I can personally vouch for how much my mouth dries out if I don't have at least one or two glasses of water after a cup of coffee.

Without getting into this debate too much (google is your friend), it is well accepted that coffee and caffeine are not as dehydrating as people think. Eg. from Wikipedia:

"Caffeine has diuretic properties when administered to people who are not used to it, but regular users develop a tolerance to this effect, and studies have generally failed to support the common notion that ordinary consumption contributes significantly to dehydration."

I love tea, ginger tea is great! I get a ginger green tea blend by tazo, full of yum! I also do lose leaf teas those are so full of flavor. I'm partial to caffeine free tea mostly yet I do drink some with minor bits of caffeine.
