Target Weight

OK, I'm posting this here because I don't want any sympathy; I just want to know if I'm looking at this right.

Until now, my ultimate goal had been to get to 190 lbs.

Today, I just got my body fat calipers in the mail. They indicate that I have a body fat pctg. of 28%. That means my lean body mass is 175.8 lbs. My goal is to really to get to 12% body fat. That would indicate that my target weight should really be 200 lbs., not 190. At 200 lbs. and 12% BF, I would have 24 lbs. of body fat, and 176 lbs. of lean body mass.

Am I looking at this right? Should I adjust my goal upward to 200, even though that would give me a less than ideal BMI of 26.7?

Does it really matter what your goal is at this point? I don't think it does. Goals like this are just something that somebody pulls out of their ass anyway. To get to 190 or 200, you'd still have to get to 200 regardless, so why sweat it at this point? Just lose weight until you're satisfied then stop. It's not complicated. When you get to 210, or 200, or 190, or whatever... if you're thin enough and satisfied, then quit. If you still have love handles and a big gut... keep trying.

I was wondering about this as well. Some site, the first one I found when I googled "BMI", said I am on the lower end of overweight with a BMI of 25. However, I have 25% body fat, so 118lbs lean body mass. As far as I know 25% body fat is at the low end of average/acceptable, but not overweight. Or maybe the "acceptable" range for body fat percentage includes overweight but not obese? Basically the BMI reading says I'm doing worse than the body fat one. Is because the BMI doesn't account for how much weight is muscle and how much is fat? Anyone know?

yeah you could be like a 300 pound bodybuilder, and be considered obese according to the BMI
