Tammy's Plan

I am the mother of 2 girls.
I am 31 years old.
I am 5'6" and weigh 181 pounds.
I want to weigh about 150.

I am currently doing South Beach.

Moment of truth came today. I went to try on clothes during my lunch break. Yuck!!!!! I've dieted some before, but now I want to get serious about it. Need lots of encouragement to stay motivated. And exercise???? Yuck also. I'm a teacher.

For breakfast (before MOT) I had 2 small cartons of milk, a biscuit with jelly, and a piece of sausage. Tried to eat an Atkins bar for snack (GROSS). Just had taco salad (with no taco shell, just the meat and veggies) and a south beach peanut butter cookie. I only drink diet, caffeine-free stuff.

Keep me encouraged.

Welcome, Tammy.
I am 34 with three boys and I was a kindergarten teacher before staying home with the kiddos. I've never tried Atkins or South Beach, but I've been doing this for 9 months now. I've just gotten serious again after a move to South Carolina.
Good luck and I'm looking forward to your posts.

Welcome Tammy!!! good luck to you in all of your journey and lifestyle change =) It is definately helpful to post what we eat each day b/c it helps us stay honest. =)

I would suggest that any way you can try to get at least 30 min of exercise in 3 times a week.. even if it is just a 30 min walk with the kids... or if you have a chance to get away from them and go for a walk yourself... or put in an exercise tape and have them do it with you!!! (if they are little that is - older kids might not want to have fun with you too ;) )

Good luck to you honey!

Okay, so last night. We had wings, whole wheat macaroni with cheese, and 2 sf fudgesickles (did I spell that right?). I also snacked on a couple of triscuits with cheese.

I went home planning to walk, and completely lost that motivation. We're baseball freaks and I didn't want to miss the game. Then I fell asleep during it. I've got some free time during work today, I may try to do some Pilates then (which is my favorite form of exercise).

No breakfast yet, but I brought some apples with me.

Okay, my food since yesterday...

I didn't really eat lunch because a kid at our school threw up in front of me. I didn't have much of an appetite after that.

In our cafeteria they actually had wheat waffles and sausage. I used as little syrup as possible and had 2 little cartons of milk to go with it.

I ate a couple of triscuits with cheese, an apple, and a few pistachios. That was lunch and snacks.

I drank 1 bottle of water (not a water drinker).

I WALKED!!!!!! 30 minutes.

Supper turned into a disaster. We were eating on the go, and stopped at Sonic. I got a Chicken Wrap and a diet coke. However, I was feeding my 18 month old some of my husband's fries. I always bite off the crunchy ends so she won't choke on them, AND THEY WERE REALLY GOOD. I ended up helping to eat the fries. But that was my only slip up.

I'm extremely proud of myself that I walked. I hate to walk.

About Pilates: it's not hard. There is some strength endurance involved because you have to hold certain poses. But it is incredibly relaxing and the best thing I've ever found for abs (which I certainly need).

Okay, some good things and bad things.

Doc told me yesterday that I have high cholesterol, so I have to start doing something about that.

I really didn't eat much of anything yesterday until last night: an apple, a couple of triscuits with cheese, a few pistachios. I fixed chili, and ate fritos with them. Fritos are forbidden on South Beach but have no cholesterol!!!

I bought myself a pedometer and walked around the house 1.5 miles while watching the Cards/Astros game. Go 'stros! My house has this open floor plan where I have this little mini track. I worked and I didn't hate it. (Won't say I enjoyed it either).

This morning, all the cafeteria had were a choice of lucky charms and cinnamon toast crunch. The CTC is made partially with whole grains so I ate that with skim milk.

I'm feeling okay about this, but I hate being told I HAVE to do something. But maybe that's the impetus I'll need.

THANK YOU FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT YOU GUYS!!!

Wow Tammy... I admire Music teachers... I love music but never was able to get into anything. I was not pushed toward education by my parents and never joined ANYTHING... I regret it and wish I could go back in time. But now I will make better efforts with my daughter. I have learned ALOT through my parents mistakes... (good and bad)
you seem to be doing good with your diet.. and excercise... Pilates is very RELAXING! but it can be hard... ( I have tight leg muscles that make some moves hard)
Keep up the good work! It's all about you :)

Oh yeah... and GO WHITE SOX! ;)

I'm just not doing so great at supper. Last night was a throw together recipe I found for shells and cheese and hamburger meat (I used low fat hamburger though).

I didn't do any special walking yesterday. Although, according to my pedometer I walked 1.23 miles just in regular activity. Is this okay? Today, it's noon and I've already done 1.3, regular stuff.

All the cafeteria had for breafast were some very bad cinnamon rolls. I can't do breakfast at home. It's all I can do to get us out of the house on time. Right now, I have a club on wheat (subway) and I brought an apple for dessert.

Good notes: I've really cut down on snacking. And the doc told me my migraine pills have a weight loss side effect.

Go 'stros!!!!!

Cinnamon rolls are my downfall! I am always on the lookout for the perfect cinnamon roll. In fact, today I was out shopping and I spied a box of individually wrapped cinnamon danishes. OMG! That is exactly what I want! HOLD ME BACK! I picked up the box thinking that I could serve them for breakfast and then there wouldn't be any leftovers. Just one cinnamon danish... I turned the box over to look at the "nutritional label." STUNNED. 400+ calories and 25 fatty grams of fat. Did I mention, STUNNED? I put them back...
Look at all the changes you have made... less snacks, healthier choices, physical activity awareness... you are rocking, Tammy!
Ooh, music teacher. I have a great respect for any teacher teaching a variety of levels. Phew. I think it would be hard to hang out with the first graders and then spin heads and work over the seventh graders! You go, girl! Just wait till those 7th and 8th grade girls notice the new you!

I don't do internet at home, so I wasn't able to check in this weekend. I did ok, not great. Busy, no time to walk. On food, okay, not great. Not feeling really motivated right now.

Sit down and Wright out 10 reasons why you want to loose weight , I will wait while you do this “whistles” ok now Wright down 3 things that are stopping you from achieving this goal …. “Starts humming” ok now think of the ways you can overcome these obstacles??? Now in the last ten minutes you have just taught me a little music… over the net no less, so if you can do that you can do anything lol. Have a wonderful week hun and just take it one day at a time.

10 reasons why (in no particular order)

1. tired of lumpy middle
2. don't want diabetes
3. just do
4. want to look good in my clothes
5. situation at church (don't ask)
6. want to wear a smaller size
7. don't want to get bigger
8. don't want to look like my mother
9. want a lifestyle change
10. my husband loves me the way I am, but I want to look good for him

3 things stopping me

1. food that's good for you takes work. convience is an issue.
2. I get tired of working at it
3. Life. Busy teaching schedule, teach private lessons before and after school, 11 yr and 18 month kids, church obligations (3 nights a week) husband who's a band director (Fridays). Addicted to baseball and Fox News Channel. (Also I hate to exercise at the house if family is present, which is all the time)

I hear ya about the convience food. Healthy food tends to be labor-intensive (and sometimes costly). Salads and soups are a huge help. Most don't take too much longer than an unhealthy alternative. Salads are quick (add chicken or taco meat, etc to dress them up and make them a bit more kid-friendly) and most soups freeze well. (So, at least if you make a double batch you have a freezer ready meal.)
I'm interested in how you get around your obstacles!

Okay, since Oct. 17 (10 days ago) I've lost 6 pounds. I knew something was up yesterday, because (don't laugh) the particular pair of underwear I was wearing was twisting on me, leaving one cheek out. It hasn't done that since I was a lower weight. I thought, hmmm. So I weighed myself this morning and, TAH-DAH!!!!

I haven't been doing great on the eating thing at night. I do okay during the day. One thing is my new migraine meds. My doctor told me it would probably make me lose weight. However, it also makes my stomach hurt, and my feet and hands tingle. Oh well....

My pedometer tells me I walk anywhere from .75 to 2.10 miles a day in regular activity. How much do you guys shoot for?

Congratulations on the weight loss! That's great! I'm very proud of you! I hope you have a great day. Love, Julia

Whoo-hoo! 6 pounds! You are rocking!! (Rocking with one cheek out, but rocking. :) )
How will you reward yourself for all that hard work?
