Taking it off

From the Atkins diet to The Zone diet you have tried them all and still are not seeing the results you want. From food restrictions, unbalanced diets, all or nothing exercise attitude to the crazy fad diets out there no matter what you do, your excess body fat keeps coming back.

Everyone knows what to do but yet don’t really know. Everyone has heard how to lose weight and keep it off permanently. “Eat a balanced diet and exercise moderately most days of the week” but very few people manage to do that.

No matter how much advice they have heard, and no matter how motivated they are to succeed, most people still do not know the ultimate tip behind keeping off weight permanently. What is this ultimate tip?

Drum role please … The #1 tip to keeping off weight is maintaining an “Energy Balance”. Energy Balance is the balance between the calories (foods/liquids) you consume and the amount of calories you burn up doing every day chores and living. Consume more then you burn and you gain fat.

It does not matter what you eat (actually it does matter but we will leave this for another time) or how much you eat, and no matter how active or inactive you are, lack of energy balance management is the number one reason you can’t lose fat and keep it off.

What most diets don’t tell you is how to properly adjust and maintain your energy balance. In my experience, they intentionally skip over all the boring calories in, calories out stuff. There marketing purpose is to get you keep going back to them to lose the same 30, 50, 70 or more pounds over and over again.

So, how do you properly manage your energy balance? Is it by feel? I don’t think this will work because if this was the case you would not have a weight problem in the first place!

Being a perfectionist with your eating won’t do it either. It’s impossible for most people to be 100% perfect ALL THE TIME. Even those people who have kept off body fat don’t always eat perfectly. But regardless they still manage to keep the fat off.

People think that exercising more is the answer to fat loss but that’s not it. Think about it for a minute. The more you exercise, the hungrier you get. And the hungrier you get, the more you eat! How do you expect to lose fat then?

What you need to do to keep a perfect energy balance is determining your exact calories and exercise needs and designing your daily diet menus and exercise programs. Only then, will you be able to keep off fat permanently.
