Taking a Stand

Hello everyone, my name is Jay:

I've struggled with depression since I was 13, and weight-gain has accompanied that depression ever since. I'm managing the depression slightly better with medication, but now I need to manage my weight. My weight has ranged from 240-280lbs over the past several years, and I need to get down to 210.

I overeat often when I'm anxious or stressed, and that's the habit I'm taking a stand against. I'm typing this at 2:50pm Mountain Time and I'm frustrated with myself because I've already gone over my calorie maximum for the day. I can't count the number of times I've said, "From this time forward, things will be different," but the good habit only lasts for a few weeks - a month if I'm lucky. I turned 30 recently and I refuse to live like this any longer. I'm going to start logging calories and exercise in Myfitnesspal - if any of you are on that app, my username is whosemoose.

I'm looking for people to join me on my journey, and I hope that you will let me join you on yours as well. Thanks everyone.

-Jay

Hi Jay & welcome to the forum. I think many of us overeat when stressed or anxious. It is a horrible habit as it makes us feel even worse. Many of us congregate in the diary section & offer one another support there. I find typing in my diary each day helps to keep me focussed on my health, both physical & mental. The link to the diary section in this forum is http://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ Check it out & see what you think. This forum is well run & moderated & is very friendly.
I just sent you a message on My Fitness Pal. I have checked out the MFP forum a few times but have not liked it at all. It can be quite aggressive.
Eating well & exercising makes such a difference to how you feel. I know that when I get down I need to go for a walk or do some other exercise. It makes such a difference. If I eat rubbish I feel like I am rubbish.
A great big welcome to you Jay! Cheers, Cate.
