tabata experiance...

anyone have any experiance with the tabata method?
im going to try it soon with the front squat
maybe il do it once a week.

any info/ advice anyone has?

is it really as puffed up as people make it for aiding in fat loss?

If you're going to do the tabata intervals, like HIIT type workouts I wouldn't do them with front squants unless you are doing extremely low weights. Squats are not an exercise that I would try to do quickly since form is of utmost importance and doing them quickly is a formula for injury. If you're trying to work your legs out doing a high rep workout-quickly, I'd do box jumps onto a 24" bench or similar. I also do "Thrusters" with two 18 lb Kettle bells or two 26 lb KB's. Holding them in a "racked" position I do a squat (ass to ground) them stand back up and do an overhead press at the top, lower the arms, squat, repeat etc.

Just because you're doing Tabata style sets doesn't mean you have to move 100 reps a minute either. I used timed sets exclusively now. I also run fitness boot camps and use time 99% of the time. Sometimes it is 20-10 and other times it is 50-10 and 40-20.

I also like to mix up the movements within one group or workout. So I might do 20 seconds of squats, 10 sec rest, followed by something else (ie. lunges, kb snatch, pushups etc). The best thing I find about timed sets is it keeps you honest. Theres no damn wasting time resting for 3-5 minutes after a set of 95lbs on the bench like people do.

I say give it a try and see what happens. Using tabata and other timed sets I run my boot camps for 30-45 minutes and will usually do my own workouts in 8-20 minutes. It's no joke.

I do (just started) timed front squats and haven't had any issues. Tough, tough, but that's the point, right? Yeah, form is important - so just maintain good form. Go for it.

thanks for the info guys, il be doing front squats for them, starting with 85lbs for the first workout!
il be sure to write back and report how it goes. thankyou!

what are your experiances with fat loss with tabata? does it suppliment your diet noticably better than normal cardio or traditional curcuits?

It's mostly different. I'd say they beat the non-weight based tabata stuff, but could be on par with some complexes depending on how hard you hit them.
