Sport Swiss Cheese ok?

Sport Fitness
Hey everybody,

I've got a really dumb question. For a pre-bed snack, I've either been eating CC and Natty PB or some almonds. I came across some light swiss cheese and was wondering if it was ok to have. Here is some nutrition info on it.

My fat intake is mostly mono and poly saturated so and I need some saturated fat, correct? It also contains a good amount of protein so it seems a viable choice compared to other cheeses.

Any advice?

Thanks,

personally i would go with the natural pb and there are a lot of other alt that could be better but if your gonna have cheese swiss would be a good way to go, what about parmesean/ low fat cottage cheese? if the rest of your diet it is order I dont see a big problem

If your diet is otherwise low in saturated fat, I don't think you should feel bad about enjoying some light swiss cheese. As for actually needing saturated fat, someone else can answer better than I can, but your body probably is best off with some rather than none. But by some, I mean very little. Some people no doubt eat too little polyunsat and monounsats by trying to avoid fat altogether, but I don't imagine there are a lot of people out there who are in less than optimal health because of a lack of saturated fat. (From what I understand, sat fat is more important to someone adding muscle bulk than someone doing cardio.) And really, light swiss cheese is pretty tame anyway as far as fatty foods go. One thing though---from what I've heard before, it's best to avoid fatty foods right before bed, since those fat calories will be used for padding your gut rather than energy. From what I understand, it's best to avoid calories right before bed regardless of what form they're in. But if that's wrong, hopefully someone will correct me.

Anyway, it sounds like you are pretty disciplined in how you eat, and I would guess that you are probably pretty disciplined in how you workout, too. So if cheese before bed is what you enjoy, you probably shouldn't feel bad about enjoying it. But for the most part, I'd say your current choices of CC, PB, and/or nuts is probably better.

BTW, if you live near a Trader Joe's and want some good fat-free cheese for sandwiches or whatever, I really enjoy their fat-free crumbled feta.

Low fat cheese is ok in my opinion but shouldn't you have 5 to 6 small meals every day rather than a pre-bed snack. You should eat early in the evening not before going to bed.

Do you track your calories and macros? If it fits in and doesn't cause you to have too much sat. fat then eat it...it's a natural food.

And there's no problem eating late. It's a myth that it makes you store fat. What matters is your caloric intake throughout the day, not what time you eat it. I usually have a snack at about 9PM and go to bed at 11

Yes, I track my calories and macros. The cheese helps fit my 50-30-20 ratio. I also have my pre-bred around 9 and crash around 10-10:30.

I pretty much eat no red meat or higher fat dairy products so I'm otherwise low in sat. fat.

Thanks for the advice
