And it is qutie hard to do both at the same time so people seperate it into two stages.
Cutting and bulking.
Bulking is where you gain muscle and eat more calories than burn and cutting is where you lose fat by going into a caloric deficit.
 
Loose weight requires lack of calories
Gain muscle requires surplus of calories

Think on it.

For supplements,

Go with a quality multi that does not contain ANY crap what so ever in the ingredients list. Such as Artificial colors/flavors, Partly hydrogenated oils, any sugar besides fructose, and so on.

Fishoil make sure it has atleast a 2-1 ratio of EPA to DHA.

Whey, again make sure it does not contain any crap in the ingredients.
