So this is my first post and I'm sure like a lot of people, I found this site courtesy of google.
A little history before I begin. I'm 5'8'ish 135lbs, lean build like a runner (except i dont jog/run). Growing up I played a lot of sports like tennis, badminton, ball, lots of cycling. Looking back, I didnt eat much either because I was never really hungry, 2 meals a day was more than sufficient, usually skipped out on lunch.
So basically, I've been trying to gain weight recently and have cut down on a lot of endurance exercises and focused mainly on strength training. At current, I consume roughly, 2400 calories a day on workout days and maybe 1800 on off days (And I am usually full lol). On workout days I usually take a weight gainer (GNC mass gainer). Everyday I take a 1000mg Omega 3 and a multivitamin by One a day.
I read some previous posts where people talked about cytogainer. The main thing that grabbed my attention was that it was high in calorie and low in sugar (5g), where as the GNC protein shake has like 68g of sugar per serving.
I'm not a big fan of asking the staff at GNC for advice either, I feel like whenever I walk in there they just start pushing "mega man" - multivitamins that cost a fortune and a bunch of other mumbo jumbo on me. I never really bite, something about the names that makes me think its a joke. Isn't a normal multi-vitamin by One a Day more than sufficient?
When it comes to supplements, I try to keep it natural for the most part, fruits and veggies. I've tried creatine before, but i decided to stop as I started getting muscle cramps when I played sports. So I'm looking for advice out there on whether or not I should try out cytogainer because it has less sugars but still a high amount of calories or even any other good protein shakes with high calories. Where can I find it? and should I still take protein shakes on off-days? (like when im not working out that day? Any other supplements I should consider? Clever ways to eat more even when your full? (Note, I'm currently in Uni so money is tight lol) Thanks in advance!
P.S. I live in Canada, so the only real nutrition store I've gone to is GNC
