There are a lot more good choices for fast food in this day and age than there was, say, ten years ago. There are more chicken sandwiches and salads now than any time I can recall. Especially in wake of the Atkins diet craze, marketing departments for fast food giants have taken notice of the public's growing interest in healthier eating. Well, sort of
The only trouble I see is McDonalds. They're the worst. I'll only eat there when my friends drag me there, and even then, I can't enjoy it like I used to. Since I've changed my lifestyle, particularly eating, to utilize much healthier choices, I really don't even miss greasy McDonalds meals. And I can't enjoy them as much, either.
Take, for example, my poison of choice. The quarter pounder with cheese combo. With all the media exposure of fast food and its less than wholesome ingredients, it was less than... satisfying. After switching to eating lean meat, whole wheat bread and a whole lot more fiber, I found the french fries pretty gross.
Think about them. The oil they're fried in has been sitting there for days, or longer. I know, friends of mine work at McDonalds. After these poor, innocent potatoes are bathed in ancient grease, they're assaulted by a blizzard of salt. And you know what makes those fries have that unique, delicious flavour? It's not beef tallow. Not since the early 90's, anyway. The savoury flavour you taste when you gobble a handful of McDonalds fries is an artificial flavour, made in the very same laboratory that creates many of Calvin Klein's scents for their perfume line.
But hey, let's not stop there. Think about my quarter pounder itself. Before that even, the cheese on top. It's not even 'real' cheese, per se! It's processed! The patty itself... this, I am less knowledgable about, but I do know that it's definitely not all meat. A huge constituent of this patty is made of cereal (filler). That's not cool.
And the drink? Loaded with sugar, or aspartame, which is just as bad (for nutritional value) or worse, depending on how you view aspartame. No nutritional value. No brainer there.
And McDonalds salads. What's up with those? Why do their salads have as many grams or fat or more than their hamburger meals? I don't get it.
My suggestion is to go get subs or Wendy's. My 'healthy' choice at Wendy's is a grilled chicken combo, with a potato (with chili or plain) instead of fries.
If you've gotten this far, thanks for reading this long post
