Summer Job

So as the summer approaches, I find myself without a job. I know I can get a job in an office where I sit inside for nine hours a day and work at a desk.. pretty exciting pause not. But I was wondering if any of you had any ideas on jobs related to fitness/nutrition that I might be able to get. I am currently a freshman in college, so I don't have much experience, but I'm just looking to learn as much as I can. And if you can't think of anything fitness or nutrition related, any jobs that are generally sweet would work too. Thanks.

Check with the parks and rec dept of your city. They probably don't pay all that well, but there would be some good outside opportunities.

Try to get any job you can get in a fitness center or ymca. Work your way up, become a certified trainer, and you can always fall back on that or use it as extra cash as a part-time gig along with your future career.

I am going to get a degree in bachelors of science and business administration (BSBA), and hopefully going into consulting when I graduate

So why dont you intern in that field? The experience will prove invaluable.

Or you could lifeguard. Tan and look at girls all day.

I could get a job in a similar field, but this is my last summer to really have a job that I am choosing, because next year I will be getting (hopefully) an intense legit internship. Although I do want something that is more mentally than visually stimulating.

If you like kids too, it's amazing to get on at a kids camp. I've worked at a couple different ones, and I swear I've never been in better shape. They do so many fun outdoor activities, and it keeps you going all day. Pay usually depends on the kind of camp that it is, but you can make a decent amount if you have some experience with kids and higher first aid levels, as well as life guarding experience.

Agreed and even better if you end up working at a sport specific or focused camp.

I'm with Nike Girl...a camp is awesome. I always thought I'd never want to work with adolescents, but I'm a teacher, a coach, and teach an adolescent self-defense class.

Anyway, some options...

(as stated) check the parks and recreation department.
See if there are any openings at your wellness center at your school in the gym area.
Disney World (in Florida) is always looking for summer interns. I kinda' wish I had taken advantage of this just to have the chance to hang out in Florida and do some work around a cool amusement park.
See if any gyms are hiring for front desk people.
Go work at a health food center
Get your CPR certification and see if there are any pools, beaches (if you live near one), or water parks are hiring.

Great suggestions everyone. As far as summer camp counselor goes, I actually started as one when I was 13 and for the next five years worked as a counselor and loved it, because I really love to work with kids. But the camp I worked at began to suck more and more each year as the restricted the counselors freedom, and became stricter on the activities the kids were doing in order to impress the parents, and show that the camp ran a tight shift (the people that sent their kids to this camp were all millionaires). So to start at a new camp now would mean pretty crappy pay, which is something I can't do. But I will definitely look into some of those other suggestions. If people have more keep 'em coming!

What do you mean fitness and nutrition? Just because you have a job in those fields, it doesn't mean you'll be outside or working your body. And the pay might be horrible. It could still be a desk job or indoor job. If you want something outdoors, you can go with lawn care. You don't even have to locate a company for that and who knows, you might find some return clients if you do a good job.

I like the camp idea as well, but if you want something local, try your highschool. If you have good relationship with them, you can find a job in football camp or some other summer camps.

Dallen, I'm not looking for something that is going to exactly work on my body, just something in the field so I can learn more. although I would prefer not to be at a desk all day, if I'm learning it would be worth it.
