Hi,

Just wondering if there are any suggestions for quick food which isn't too bad for you. Somtimes I don't have time to prepare a meal and right now I just get subway on the way home if this is the case. I know a few ppl who eat jenny craig prepackaged food but that stuff is very expensive - any alternatives? I know most other frozen foods seem to be insanely unhealthy.

Thanks,

- I get frozen salmon portions, they only take about 10min to cook and I just put some vegies on at the same time. This is my favourite meal ever, I add chillis, pepper, lemon juice or coriander, parsely, etc.
- Put 700g of frozen peas and 100g of rocket in a pot with 1 cup water or stock, boil and whizz up with a handheld mixer. Great yummy soup in minutes!
- Sushi is great too, the resistant starch in it makes your body burn fat before the food you eat.

There's always time to cook, you just need to make time for it. I'm a very busy person too, so sometimes I'll cook a big batch of food on a sunday (including lots of soups) and freeze them. No pre-frozen meal or takeout food is going to satisfy me, so I need to cook yummy food at home.

I always make my meal the day before if im going to work/school

Sometime i will cook some extra chicken and have that with some salad. OR a can of tuna with some salad. Always have cut up fruit or something handy that can be put in a container and you can bring with.

I consider myself the laziest cook ever. This is what I do:

1. Cook chicken 4 days in advance. If you dont want to cook carbs, have a nutri-grain bar.
2. Chili in a can. I often eat a can everyday, i open it up and just eat straight out of the can.
3. Tuna is handy. It's cheap too.
4. Costco has canned chicken. Lol, it's not the greatest but again, im lazy.

ther's lots of things that can be done in batch - for the supremely lazy (that'd be me :D ) get a crockpot -and you can make a big ole pot of black beans, or chili, or stew, or pretty much anything (crock pot recipes are readily available on the internet) and then portion it out into little glad ware disposable containers and freeze... just label them with the date and use them within a month or so..

Crock pots are great because while the actual cooking time is slow, you don't need to sit there and watch it.

Chicken breasts are also a way to go - marinate them with whatever seasonings strike your fancy... and cook 'em up in the oven... do 6 at a time, then package them in sandwich bags and stick 'em in the fridge...

Hardboil eggs once a week and leave them in a bowl in the fridge

I'm not a fan of processed foods, Im not a world class cook, but I can do a lot better than what's served in a frozen package or can... as long as you have a little room in your freezer - take advantage of it.

I do not own a microwave, so a lot of stuff I will package into Ziplock freezer bags, then i it's still frozen when I want to use it -I put it in a pot of boiling water.

Don't you find chili in a can a bit high in sodium? It's super easy to make chili - even as easy as opening up a can. And you can make it fairly quickly - but of course it would take a little prep time.

We buy already bagged salads and spinach that don't need to be washed. My sister showed me they have grilled bagged chicken for those quick fixes too. I don't bother with them because I generally have "enough" time to cook since I am a stay at home mom.

You've got a lot of good suggestions given already. Good luck!
