I think that because of the bad rep sugar has been receiving, people think all sugars are bad. No sugar is bad, some are just more efficient than others. Your simple sugars: glucose, lactose, and galactose, benefit your body, but you should limit your intake on these because they're simple and don't provide the nutritional impact that complex sugars provide: a steady source of energy for a longer period of time, without you crashing, or storing it as fat.
