sudden weight loss

Been exercising for years, within the last couple of months I cranked it up a notch to lose this last 10-15 pounds. I've been strength training and running 25 miles a week. I've lost a lb a week or so the last month or 2 but suddenly lost 2-3 pounds the last 2 days. Is weight loss gradual or can it stall and occur suddenly?
