Sudden "rash" of dead tastebuds...cause???

Over the past, um, 3 or 4 wks, i've started getting a new "dead tastebud" about every other day. Its seriously annoying. I have made NO CHANGES to my diet..nothing new. Nothing citrus or spicy...I don't get it.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
 
Do you eat pine nuts? Or anything made with pine nuts? There's been a lot of talk in the food blogging world recently about stale pine nuts causing a temporary numbing of the tastebuds.
 
What do you mean by dead tastebud? Does that mean you can't taste food, or can't taste a certain kind of food, or on a certain part of your tongue. or what?
 
oh, its a term I've always used...I guess I assumed everyone did.... its when you get just one tastebud that gets slightly larger, turns white and hurts for a couple of days..then goes away. Sometimes you dont' notice the pain at all...sometimes it seems really painful....Normally its no big deal. But like I said it seems like by the time one goes away, a new one is there. This has never happend before.
 
Oh that's totally different. Ok. :) Sounds like thrush to me. Or some kind of ulcer. Maybe your'e eating acidic foods? Or not getting enough natural bacteria?

Try rinsing with diluted hydrogen peroxide (spit, don't swallow! :) ), or some diluted listerine every night. Also try eating yogurt with live cultures at least once a day.
 
Yeah, I'd say that sounds more like an infection- you mention it as if you have had it before? it could be anything from candida to a virus, you really need to get it checked out- your body could well deal with it but personally if it were me, I'd rather know what the symptoms were all about, where the real infection was rather then assuming it was nothing and would go away by itself.
 
I'm familiar with thrush, as I am a mom...thats more like, TONS of tastebuds turning white at the same time...I'm only dealing with one at a time...and often theres a day or so inbetween the old one going away and the new one comming in....so I dont' think its thrush. I'm not eating any kind of acidic food...thats the 1st thing I thought about....

no, I've never had this before...I've had A dead tastebud here and there...I guess I thought everyone did? I'd get one, oh, every couple of months and thats it...it would be gone after a day or two.

I will take your advice Kara about the yogurt and listerine! Hope it works...I"ll let you know!
